    non existent dichotomies.

the good thing about it is that I ain't no representative of sunnism

making a mountain of a mole-hill is not called 'doing something'. Besides, there was nothing wrong in what the shaykh had said. There's a big diff between an academic paper/fatwa and a facebook post made in a spirit of general good feeling. Some less serious though factually correct remarks don't qualify as 'dominating a discourse'. What IS bad is sunni-bashing over nothing!

Anyways, there's no point beating around the bush.

    wassalaam.

Basically my friend, I have no real problem with halwa or sweet things. We eat this stuff its common, yes. Northern Europeans may eat Crow, and you might have lo-cal recipes, the point that you are missing is that Sunnis need to get real and evolve beyond dichotomies.

All problems come from dichotomies, the halwa isnt really the point here. The point is that eating halwa or crow is so insignificant is doesnt deserve to even be discussed.

The fact that you are not ashamed to admit that you spent five years wasting your time coming up with lo cal halwa recipes describes why Sunnism exists in the state that it does.

If you have made any positive contribution to the prevalent problems, let me know in case I am wrong in assuming you are a time waster.

Syeds gotta do something when Islam is dominated by halwa-discourse, I hope you understand where the EDIT im coming from, and I hope that you attain understanding.

    Salam.

North Europeans seem to enjoy crows more than your average, uncultured subcontinentals:

Crow-Meat Comeback: watch them on yt.

on the other hand I am yet to hear of any subcont community (apart from gangohi's questioners) who are connoisseurs of crow-flesh . . . .

how should cultural mismatches be dealt with:

5074. It is reported from Ibn 'Abbas that Umm Hufayd bint al-Harith ibn Hazn, the aunt of Ibn 'Abbas, gave the Prophet some ghee, dried curd and lizards. He invited people to eat them and they were eaten on his table and the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, left them as if he found them distasteful. If that had been haram, they would not have been eaten on the table of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, nor commanded that they be eaten."

IX. The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, used not to eat anything until it was named for him so that he knew what it was

5076. It is related from Ibn 'Abbas that Khalid ibn al-Walid, who was called the Sword of Allah, informed him that he went with the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, to Maymuna. She was both his maternal aunt and the maternal aunt of Ibn 'Abbas. He found that she had a roasted lizard which her sister, Hufayda bint al-Harith, had brought from Najd. She offered the lizard to the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. He rarely stretched his hand towards food until he had been told about it and it had been named for him. The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, reached for the lizard and one of the women present said, 'Tell the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, what you have offered him. It is lizard, Messenger of Allah.' The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, took his hand away from the lizard. Khalid ibn al-Walid asked, 'Is lizard haram, Messenger of Allah?' 'No,' he answered, 'but it is not found in the land of my people and I find that I dislike it.' Khalid said, 'I pulled it to me and ate it while the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, was looking at me.'"

IV. Following the actions of the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace

6868. 'Abdullah ibn Dinar related that Ibn 'Umar said, "The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, starting wearing a gold ring and then people started wearing gold rings. The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, 'I used a gold ring.' He then threw it away and said, 'I will never wear it.' So the people threw their rings away."

    --------
5064. It is related that Anas ibn Malik said, "A tailor invited the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, for some food which he had prepared." Anas said, "I saw the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, following the pumpkin around the plate." Anas said, "I have loved pumpkin since that day."

XXVII. Hays (a mixture of dates, ghee and dried curd)

    5109.
It is related from Anas ibn Malik was heard to say, "The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said to Abu Talha, 'Look out one of your boys to serve me.' Abu Talha brought me out riding behind him. I would serve the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, when he alighted. I would often hear him say, 'O Allah, I seek refuge with you from care and sorrow, incapacity and laziness, miserliness and cowardice, the burden of debt and being overcome by men.' I continued to serve him until we returned from Khaybar. He brought Safiyya bint Huyayy who he had chosen from the booty. I saw him folding up a cloak or garment for me and when had he ride behind him. When we were at as-Sahba', some hays was prepared and put on a small leather mat. Then he sent me to invite some men and they ate. That was his wedding feast for consummation. Then he continued on and when he could see Uhud, he said, 'This is a mountain which loves us and we love it.' When he was looking own at Madina, he said, 'O Allah, I make inviolable what is between its two mountains as Ibrahim made Makka inviolable. O Allah, bless them in their sa' and mudd.'"

Both eating crows/halwa are aspects of cultural subcontinental norms which are divorced from how I see Islam. I dont want to be on either side.

This halwa-definition is clearly restricted to those of Pakistani origin who believe their cultural norms to represent authentic Islam, without bearing in mind the broader history of the islamic thought trends without any real intellectual vigour.

If there are people out there who consider eating sweets as part of their religion, then that would be classed as an innovation, and it is clear why it attracts the wrath of members of Salafi groups.

You down there, 'Unbeknown', being a Moderator, should not contribute to a culture of eating halwa, a greasy dish that leads to obesity, as being something worthy of virtue, equallly, Nabil Afzal is wrong for advocating it as something worthy of merit.

It is clear now that the Subcontinental narrative dominates these places such as Coventry and Birmingham and is defined as Sunnism, and has not been given any second thought as to what this does to the rest of people living in the UK who actually possess open eyes and who are looking for a definition of faith that does not require them to exhibit weak characteristics or stand out as subjects of indian-culture brainwashing.

Brother, plz kindly take such a squabble in private and do not display it publicly. Do you like removing off the cover of your own belly?

Seems like you know Ustad Nabeel Afzal. It would be appropriate to take such a character squabble offline and settle it there.

if you would like to say that a public reply ought to be given to a publicly made issue, then i would still suggest you to do it privately as it seems you know Ustad Nabeel Afzal

    i hope you dont mind
