you can 'dismiss' 90% of hadith literature in this manner. this is unscientific and is a symptom of atabekism.

is it from atabek or one of his minions?

i think i found the answer
this hadith and other such hadiths could be dismissed because they are ahad hadiths.
    they are not mutawatir.
this is from one of the blogs.
i don't know who is the author but could be shaykh aslam or shaykh asrar

Some of the Mujasima have latched onto the opinion of Ibn Al-Salah, who believed that reports found in Sahih Bukhari and Sahih Muslim are all decisively reliable (Qat’iat Al-Thubut). Ibn Al-Salah‘s reasoning: there is consensus (Ijma’) on the reliability of the two books, so all of the singular reports contained within are decisively reliable by virtue of this consensus.

Know that the above is a weak opinion, which most scholars disagree with. Imam Al-Nawawi’s response to Ibn Al-Salah’s position is recorded in Al-Suyuti’s Tadrib Al-Rawi (pg. 142):

Al-Nawawi said: And most scholars disagreed with Ibn Al-Salah, saying: “a report is indecisive as long as it is not mass transmitted”.

And he [Al-Nawawi] said in his commentary of Sahih Muslim: Such is the state of the singular narration. And it makes no difference whether it is reported by the two sheikhs [Bukhari and Muslim] or anyone else. The Ummah’s acceptance of the two Sahihs is only proof that we do not need to check the authenticity of their reports before acting upon them. This is unlike narrations found in other books, which need to be scrutinized and authenticated first. But just because the Ummah has agreed to act upon those narrations, doesn’t mean that they have agreed that the narrations are decisively the words of the Prophet ﷺ.

Comment: and the claim that there is consensus with regards to the authenticity of all reports in the two Sahihs, is a claim that should be subjected to further study.

    @Aqdas
thank you. I have read the thread. It does not address my questions. what was the position of our scholars about sorcery/magic?
    Maturidi scholars
Sub Continent Scholars like Sayyidi AlaHadrat, and his teachers

is this an example of aql vs naql?

logically this hadith seems to contradict basic attributes of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم and it is used by deobandis and wahhabis to prove that Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم did not have any powers, so why do we do isthighatha and istimdad.

    need urgent refutation of this.

It is true that Imam Abu Bakr al Jassas rejects this. And it is true that there may be few (certainly not many) ahadith in Al Bukhari which are not Sahih (either in whole or in part). But ignore people like Atabek and Nadwi.

The majority of Sunni Ulama explain this incident by saying that the black magic only had a minor effect. Similar to that of a fever. As we believe Prophets can be afflicted with things such as hunger or certain illnesses which don’t impact their ability to deliver the message correctly and don’t detract from their status.

This is the correct explanation as far as I can remember. And from what I have learned, black magic causing any prophet to doubt himself or to contemplate suicide is mentally impossible.

    السلام عليكم
    need urgent help

what is position of our scholars regarding magic or sorcery done on the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم

    I have read conflicting opinions
    atabek claims maturidis reject
akram nadwi says imam bukhari narration is baseless
deobandi zaleel ur rahman claims and quotes imam ibn hajar asqalani that only heretics reject the hadith of imam bukhari.

what have our scholars said on this.

please this is an urgent request.
