SallAllahu alaihi wa alihi wa sallam. Either say it verbally or write fully. Don't shorten

that is a fabrication. there is no justification that a brother is known as ibn of his brother. The infamous yazid ibn muawiya, the real son, had not been born in the times of Rasul Allah(SallAllahu `alayhi wa sallam). There are such reports, both for and against yazid ibn muawiya either being cursed or blessed during the times of Huzur Paak(SallAllahu `alayhi wa sallam). However, marwan ibn hakam and his father both had been cursed by the Noble Prophet(SallAllahu `alayhi wa sallam). Umm al-Muminin Ayesha(raDiyAllahu `anha) says that marwan was cursed by the Prophet(SallAllahu `alayhi wa sallam) prior to his birth.

checked dhahabi's siyar, 1/328, entry #67. he doesn't mention that he was known as yazid ibn mu'awiyah.

    ------
    dhahabi's tajrid asma'a al-saHabah: entry #1566, 2/137
only one yazid ibn muawiyah al-bakkayi #1619.

    --------
    ibn hajar, tahdhib al-tahdhib entry #634, 11/332.

    -------
i guess, that is all there is to it.

i suppose there is a mistake in nuzhat al-qari.

i have checked few other books of rijal and i haven't seen anyone mention that he was known as yazid ibn mu`awiyah.

    ---
so i checked tabaqat ibn sa'ad, and the events of Hunayn; it says here mentioning the distribution of spoils:

...abu sufyan was given a 100 camels and 40 uuqiyah (a measure/weight). and he said: 'my son yazid'. He sallAllahu alayhi wa sallam said: 'give him 40 uuqiyah and 100 camels' (abu sufyan said) 'my son mu`awiyah'. He SallAllahu alayhi wa sallam said: 'give him 40 uuqiyah and 100 camels'.

    tabaqat ibn sa'ad, 2/141.

it appears that the sharih raHimahullah has either mixed up or he might have found it thus in another text already mixed up. will check some more texts later, in sha'Allah.

Jazakallah. This was under Hadith 7: Hadith Hiraql. Page 275 (Chapter: Kayfa Kana Bad'ul wahy)

yazid ibn abi sufyan (Sakhr ibn Harb) is a SaHabi - who was the son of abu sufyan and brother of mu`awiyah ibn abi sufyan raDiyallahu `anhum.

he is also known as yazid al-khayr. he became a muslim on the Day of Victory and participated in the battle of hunayn as a Muslim. RasulAllah sallAllahu alayhi wa sallam gave him a share in the spoils of the war.

later, sayyiduna abu bakr raDiyallahu `anhu sent him to the levant in and gave him the charge of various armies. along with amr ibn al-aaS, abu ubaydah ibn al-Jarrah and shuraHbil, he was sent to palestine - and they won various victories en route; madayin, ramlah, jibrin and palestine. (dhahabi in siyar mentions that these four were generals in yarmouk and they did not answer to anyone else).

he was appointed the governor of palestine by sayyiduna `umar raDiyallahu `anhu and later was the governor of levant.

he passed away in the year 18 or 19 after hijrah.

[extracted from usd al-ghabah, ibn athir, #5550, 4/688.
also see iSabah of ibn Hajar, #9305, 11/405]

    ----
note that there are two SaHabah named yazid ibn mu'awiyah in iSabah of ibn Hajar:

#9350: yazid ibn mu`awiyah ibn al-aswad, who was among the migrants during the second migration to abyssinia (habasha).

#9351: yazid ibn mu`awiyah al-bakkayi, whom ibn Hibban attested that he was a SaHabi, but mistakenly also listed him as a tabiyi.

note to yM: reference of nuzhat would be helpful.

I believe Hadhrat Abu Sufyan raDyAllahu 'anhu and Hadhrat Mu'awiya raDyAllahu 'anhu are SaHaba Kiraam. I find it inappropriate to use these noble names next to yazeed's

A print screen from Nuzhatul Qari. can someone please explain this? Abu Sufyan says that 'this is my son, Yazid Ibn Muawiya'.

The next heading (no.4) however says Yazid ibn Abi sufyan?
