I see... Another good platform is Adobe Connect.

Took a look at WizIQ, it's a 30 day free trial :(. EdX seems very well designed though; what we need is ulama to take the time to design courses around it.

WizIQ is another good platform - and free as far as I know.

If you build it they will come; if anyone here hasn't heard of EdX, it's Harvard & MIT's joint venture in creating a free online learning platform for University level courses of any subject. It works like a normal online platform available to University students would but this has the added bonus of being ID verified and being able to issue certificates of achievement for most if not all courses.

The platform itself is open-source meaning that anyone can contribute to it's development or deploy their own implementation of it for free.

If we can get some talented web developers in on this, we can then get shuyookh to design courses and curricula around this platform. The best part is that some courses are only 8 weeks long so everything is very self contained but can also include prerequisites as well.

    Bismillah

    As-salamu 'alaykum,

Any new online study options? :)

    As-salamu 'alaykum,

Personally I think what is especially needed is an academy offering Alim degrees/BAs or diplomas of a certain level. We need more English-speaking callers, imams and scholars with sound knowledge to counter the Wahhabi assembly line "scholars" being churned out on a daily basis.

Yes... I also know someone who enrolled (thinking they're Sunnis). That was in October 2012. After 2-3 months he asked them for a re-fund as he never received the login details and also because he decided not to study there. To this day he has received 3-4 emails saying he will get a 50% re-fund but still hasn't received it.

For a long time, I have been thinking the same thing.
There is no proper institute that teaches online in English.
This is really necessary in this time.

I personally think that people like Shaykh Asrar, Shaykh Monawwar Ateeq and Shaykh Mohammad Yaseen should work together and begin such an intitative (for teaching online in English). Because they have good foundations in Urdu, English, Arabic and Islamic Sciences.

The only online Sunni institute I know is this one:

But I've read enough about it's principal in this forum to know that this institute shouldn't be taken seriously. Add to that this blunder:

    As-salamu 'alaykum,

We all agree that the Wahhabi and Deobandi institutes and online academies are attracting way to many ignorant Muslims who (often) don't know what they are getting into.

The rabied Wahhabi dog Bilal Philips's "Online University" is churning out pseudo-scholars with BAs in "Islamic Studies" and there are now almost a handful of online Deobandi "Alim programmes" (perhaps even more as I haven't checked for new ones for a while). Some of these are quite cheap (some are more or less free).

Instead of bitching and moaning about this fact, why don't the Sunnis provide affordable alternatives? The only online Sunni academies I could find were ridiculously expensive!

A lot of brothers and sisters want to study online because they live in areas or countries without Sunni 'ulama or because that's the only way they can juggle work, non-religious studies, and family life.

It's time for a Sunni alternative! And please, in English!
