39.32 onwards 39.50 imam abu'l hasan al-ash'ari was a student of waSil ibn aTa. (let us cut slack and consider he was distracted and he might have meant jubbayi, but couldn't help noting). but if some book has such a slip up - whether the author's own negligence or the copyist's mistake, people consider it was etched in stone - that IS the belief of the author, even if he has said it expressly otherwise in dozens of other places! thereafter, the collage-historian again giving sound bites: "he turned against his own alma mater". chic, innit?
i listened to some more until his tafsir of "kalimatullah" [36.02] utterly shoddy 'scholarship'. patent nonsense. any of these 'scholars' would be booed and laughed off, a hundred years ago from an islamic madrasah. but the ignorance of our time! alas...
i haven't listened to the longer lecture below entirely; the 1 hour, 24 min long one. the shorter clip doesn't say anything about the speaker. but scrubbing in the longer lecture, around 23.00 he talks of kalam. was thoroughly disappointed, but this is the style of modern academics these days. so it is par. ---- i found that he is a collage-historian. excuse me? yes..i said 'collage' with an a. collage-historian (sic). ---- that is you take a few facts and stitch them to make a nice picture. no one can argue about the facts - hey you can go back and reference them. but those who know those original pictures used in the collage KNOW that this collage is NOT an original picture - it is a brain-child of the collage artist. for example, his over simplification of how mutazilah came to consider "qur'an is makhluq" is evident in that clip if you listen from 23.00 onwards. so mutazilah (assuming they were a classified group, card-carrying members) were examining aayats one by one, not unlike researchers in a modern university, exchanging notes etc. so they came to up this aayah of "and Allah Spake to musa" and they said. 'wait a minute. what's happening here...?' and then they formed their theory and held a press conference in which they announced their results. tabloids decried them and demonised them. but the presiden..ooops sorry the big boss..the highest guy in the govenment, er, the king, al-ma'mun ratified the allaf-bill, which resulted in the 4th amendment. and by virtue of this legislation, the kingdom become officially mutazilah. [exactly at 27.01 onward, you can notice a freudian slip. he says: "in the year 2012, during the reign of the abbasi king al-ma'mun..." later he corrects himself as 212 AH]. ----

[those are arnold's posts] yes 'excellent' so long as none is the wiser. hold your horses until then. as for the dead heretical sect - our elders buried it so deep that a few pseudo intellectuals of our time will not be able to revive it. the ancient mutazilah were intelligent, talented and erudite. yet they did not survive because of their heresy. do you think the modern wannabes with their pathetic surface-scratching knowledge stand up to the mountains of ahl al-sunnah? get a life. and if you are a mutazili wannabe, repent.
