Your post also reminds me of Egyptians of today, especially the Ikhwanis, who I stereotype as such. The Gulf arabs only if they come out of their New York/breetaniya shopping dreams/ "daktoornesss"/ salafi brainwashings that I could place them in the same category as the Egyptians I experience this common arab contusion all the time wherever I meet these arabs in North America, Cairo, Sydney or Brazil

I was watching a documentary on Arab journalists and the precious little freedom they hav to report what their conscience deems right. In the course of which I saw the workings of al-jazeera's back office. Now I like watching al-jazeera's al-ittijaah al-mu'aakis, and watching the protaganists' hypocoristic antics..but then I saw something unconscionably revolting: they conduct their meetings in......English. Yet more pummelling for their brittly bruised and contused dimunitive inferiority complext egos. Next time u run into an arab, insist on speaking Arabic- though they'll desist - preferring francais or english .they'll laugh at you to put you off. but i adjure you hold your ground, say: la-ukallimannaka bi-al-'arabiyyati al-quHHati raghima anfuka. I will speak to you in Arabic in spite of yourself. afzal
