Thanks bro.............tis on my TO DO list of reading now! :p

  2. :s1: again brother SA,

I think we already have a book for teaching morals and manners in a most engaging way: Hazrat Mawlana Shaykh Sa'di :ra:'s Gulistan (Rose Garden) has been used for centuries in the Eastern Islamic Lands for this purpose and is readily available in English translations.

    Undoubtedly!

But my concern is not with education, rather all the other society's ills which the modern world brings to the fore. Children should be brought up to value cultural diversity and isolating them simply in Islamic schools......my opinion only.....does not solve the problem.

Why don't some learned Islamic scholars write a book dedicated solely for this purpose. For example, let's take Technology...an issue that Sue Palmer deals with well. I believe modern Technology (computers, DS, WII etc etc etc) really are the harbinger of the death of childhood! In what ways can we help eradicate this problem........how can we attract the children of today, because I daresay, the Mullahs or local imams generally are not having much of an impact on the youth are they?

Seems like the nature/nurture debate again? :)

  4. I'm not sure if it is such a good idea to isolate them from mainstream society--they then will have problems fitting in. I agree mainstream plebeian society has gone to the dogs so what to do? I'd say enrol your kids in one of the grand British public (.i.e. private) schools--they are still quite conservative and instill traditional values of honour and respect and aiming for greatness as well as giving a brilliant education with emphasis on creativity. Added to a religious atmosphere at home where love of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم and the awliya is instilled from infancy and they'll be fine insha Allah..

    Toxic Childhood by Sue Plamer.

Have read this book recently. A good read for all those with children....and all those who plan for children in the future insha'allah!;)
Looks into how the contemporary culture is having a massive influence on children's development.

Was wondering, does anyone know of any Islamic books written with this important theme in mind? Books that specifically highlight how children should be brought up in today's society from an Islamic perspective?
