He's not saying anything unusual with regard to ibn taymiyyah. I don't know why but quite a few of the Arab sunni scholars consider him to be a great shaykh etc. The sunni hanbali scholars consider him a giant in fiqh as well. I personally find it strange considering his aqeedah but maybe people buy into the whole 'he repented and became ashari' thing, I don't know.
Dr Shadee is neither a mureed of Keller nor associated with them. He may have a positive opinion of Keller by default, considering him a Sunni. (He probably hasn't read TKM, for example). As far as I know personally, he considers the ibarat of the Deoband Akabir to be cringeworthy/faulty at the least, if not kufr. However, he is not that well versed with the entire issue. However in the case of new people he meets and those with the label of "deobandi," he generally holds favorable positions about others until proven otherwise. In this particular case, Im assuming hes of the opinion that Mumtaz deobandi just doesnt know Kalam and is speaking out of ignorance and just needs to be corrected. I dont think he truly realizes how deep the deobandi deviance goes. This is not just Dr Shadee. Many Arab ulema including, Syrian ulema (now in Turkey) have been infiltrated by deobandis and consider them from Ahlusunnah. And consider the Sunni-Deobandi differences as just "polemics."
