This topic really does sum up what this forum is all about for certain users.

The insular mentality of certain "hard-core" sunnis is to the detriment of our religion. There's very little sincerity or willingness to accept a difference of opinion and the obsession with one's own individual hero is tearing us apart like nothing else.

Brother NJ expressed his opinion and rather than rebutt the arguments in a logical academic manner others were astounded as to how one can hold a different opinion to a certain scholar and hurled acusations and labels against NJ which were unfounded and simply untrue.

NJ please continue with the battle the cause is very much deserving, time will reveal the reality. You're talent is too good to be shunned away.

yes, and all these brain-dead zindiqs blind-follower toilet sweepers of the white novelty then chastise muslims for following their religion and they say "suicide is better than blind following!" not realizing it applies to them more than us muslims.

my response to the talking empty-head on tv:
muftis of this ummah are to tell you halal and haram. they say this in spite of insinuations and cheap attacks by those who think that everyone in the world is a scoundrel like themselves.

ulama are not worried about your dunya - it is carrion that a decent muslim should not touch. they tell you about your akhirah - if you bother about it. yet these fools blame ulama of stealing their dunya. when this empty-head is dead and buried, will he be asked about technology?

    ---
as for full body scanners, even the white/westerners, whom these people almost worship, consider it as a violation of human rights and breach of privacy. mawlana akhtar raza khan's view - if it is true - is that such scanners violate our principle of modesty and that it is obligatory to cover our awrah. which is common sense and any mufti will tell you the same - unless he is in the pay of rapiscan or is a shameless admirer of the west.

this, apart from the health risk of radiation these scanners pose; morever, what does a full-body scanner have to do with progress?

the american civil liberties union (as cited in wikipedia):
"This doesn't only concern genitals but body size, body shape and other things like evidence of mastectomies, colostomy appliances or catheter tubes. These are very personal things that people have every right to keep private and personal, aside from the modesty consideration of not wanting to be naked."
also read the first two alerts on privacy infocenter (epic)

also, these scanners have been proven to be ineffective. reading these accounts, it is clear that many non-muslims have strong feelings of modesty and privacy that people who call themselves as muslims don't. [reader discretion advised]

    airports with body scanners
    airports without body scanners

because initially printing had a lot of errors and copyists were usually huffaz thus being more accurate than printers.

    ---
In Encyclopedia of the Ottoman Empire by Agoston and Masters, p.130:
When he realized that his request was not being viewed favorably, Muteferrika petitioned the grand vizier to obtain a FATWA or religious ruling from the SEYHULISLAM, the chief religious official of the empire, and a decree from Sultan AHMED III (r.1703-30), granting permission for the printing of works in Turkish using the Arabic alphabet. Despite protests from those who favored the status quo and who viewed this enterprise as a harbinger of fundamental social change, the seyhulislam, Abdullah Efendi, issued a fatwa declaring that there was no religious objection to Muteferrika's proposal.
    a few lines later:
At first, the printing of religious works was forbidden, and Muteferrika published scientific and technical material only. It was not until 1803 that the ban on printing religious material was lifted.
    ----------------------------
even the enemies of islam, those silver tongued orientalists, do not say what so-called muslims chirp nowadays.

In Introduction to Islamic Theology and Law, Ignac Goldziher (Bernard Lewis edition,) writes [p.234]:
Thus from the viewpoint of religious law, the gate of "innovation" and reform is not closed to Islam. Under the protection of this freedom, new institutions, borrowed from Western civilization, were granted entry into Muslim life. In certain cases, it is true, they called forth the opposition of obscurantists, but they were ultimately sanctioned by the formal fatwas of acknowledged scholars of the law, and thus secured against extreme orthodox attacks
    ...
    ...
    ...
It was under the protection of such theological patents that the innovations adopted in Islamic society since the eighteenth century (the first being perhaps the introduction of the printing press in 1729, in Istanbul)
    * acquired an untroubled title to legitimate existence.
    the footnote by lewis:
    * The first printing presses in Turkey were set up by Jewish refugees from Spain before the end of the fifteenth century. They were authorized to do so on condition that they did not print any books in Turkish or Arabic and confined themselves to Hebrew and European languages.
    ...
    ...
The ban on printing in Turkish or Arabic remained effective until the eighteenth century when, after some argument, Shaykh al-Islam Abdallah Efendi issued a ruling authorizing the printing of books in Turkish provided that they dealt with subjects other than religion.

That is a glaring contradiction. As previously you've advocated clubs, bars and prostitution in your utopia. Upon whom will then the hudud apply?

Back your claim about the Shaykh ulIslam of the Ottoman Empire and the printing press.
As far as I know, the fatwa was only limited to religious books, especially the Quran, and not to books on science and technology. The only reason of exclusivity to the Quran and religious texts was because of the sanctity of those books.

Now my plea to NJ is, a) provide the name and bio of the Shaykh, b) show this historical fatwa, as it must be contained in history or fiqh books, c) source the historical accounts of this fatwa and it implications.

This must be done from Muslim accounts, as the secular Turks and the Western sources are obviously biased.

AbdalQadir time to move along! will check pm's.

this filthy sneaky comment, brothers and sisters, is the perfect example of the venom in the heart frothing at the mouth of a filthy hypocrite who enjoys drinking from the sewers of white european novelty

he thinks our clergy too were like the european popes of the middle ages. he thinks the entire world is as low as his white european feudal masters

here he shows a few things:

    1. his enmity of the 3ulema of the Ahlus Sunnah

    2. his acceptance of an idiotic accusation by a media schmuck as the gospel truth without as much as knowing what exactly is being talked about. God forbid had someone ever uttered something similar about the european novelty, and he would be demanding all sorts of direct and corroborative evidences and what not. but hey, an accusation has been made against Muslim 3ulema! why let something like an investigation, or a clarification, or facts get in the way! we must seize the moment and immediately lash out at Muslim clergy!

    3. make no mistake about it. this is a very deliberate and sneaky comment deliberately made to offend and score a point at those who respect Sunni 3ulema, which is the average Muslim (he only accords scholarly "respect" to nazim and hanson because they too drink from the same sewer that he drinks from) little does this 'guy who bought Bahar-e-Shariat' know that passing such general and blanket derogatory statements at 3ulema takes one outside of Islam. little does he know that this sweeping comment even includes people like Ala Hazrat and Meher Ali Shah (amongst others, and for what its worth even his "mawlana nazim" and kabbani), whom this hypocrite claims to love and follow. so staunch is his arrogance that to score a worthless point with a few common folk on a forum, he had to take such a low blow at scholars of the ummah making such a pathetic comment!

    4. he levels an accusation of withholding knowledge at scholars in a general sweeping statement, which is another insult at scholars. upright Sunni scholars are the crown on the head of the ummah praised in Quran and hadith

what shameless scum of the earth this character is!

make no mistake about it. righteous torchbearers of the Sunni 3aqidah are NOT the reason the ummah is in the dire straits it is in. the reason the ummah is in dire straits is sellouts on a leash wearing the collar of the empire around their necks, be it amongst the "leaders", or the "scholars" claiming 'Islam/Sunnism' but owing their loyalties to those holding the leash and saying or doing anything to please them, or cobblers picking up after their dogs, like this character!

laa hawla walaa quwwata illaa bilLah!

just think about it, you share the same views as a drunkard, you admire the poetry of a man who disrespects the Greatest of Mankind (countless peace and blessings be upon him), you remain silent about deviants like TuQ and yet, you are quick to pick faults out of righteous Ulema?

do you never feel as though you're doing wrong? I am only trying to make you see sense, my friend!

NJ, i have been reading your posts and I seriously think you should find a teacher and learn fiqh, aqida, and other subjects which may cure this disease in your heart.

I know that you are probably going to ignore me, and you probably think that you're right and I'm wrong but I plead with you to heed my advice.

if I were you, I would leave this forum for a while, and find a proper Sunni teacher to teach you fiqh, aqida, and other Islamic sciences, and then come back and hopefully, Allah will guide you.

    what do you say NJ?

  13. Yes, it is I but my views have evolved although my basic aqidah is the same.

  14. No he is not saying that -- he is saying they didn't allow the printing press for that length of time and it led to intellectual and technological decay. The printing press made mass publication possible for the first time in history so even the common folk could have access to books not just the clergy and the scholars--so they could still control people by labelling them as deviant etc.

Is this guy seriously saying Muslims around the world stopped printing books for 200 years from 1450???? I think he needs to back that up as I've never ever heard any scholar say that we were without books for 200 years due to a fatwa from Turkey!!!

ha ha. you don't even understand the meaning of the fallacy.

  19. and all the ulama you appeal to when it suits you isn't? you are the ones
who say you live all your lives by the sayings and rulings of the ulema so
why is it that you're not following all these ulema when it comes to HY?

  20. brother suleiman,
i agree with tariq ramadan that the hudood laws, although in theory good, should not be applied in this age until all other issues like corruption etc. have been dealt with. put on hold till the mahdi alayhisalam arrives.
