so those wahabis can go where they like as Nabi Kareem (upon him be peace) himself did tafseer of this verse!
even clearer than that, Allama Baig Qadri Sahib on a tv programme today mentioned a hadith where Hazrat ibn Abbas (RA) asked the Holy Prophet (upon him be peace), who are meant by this verse (he said the arabic but i dont' remeber it fully), Nabi Kareem replied Ali, Fatima, Hasan and Husain (RA).
sadril afazil's student, mufti ahmad yaar khan naeemi, writes in his hashiya nur al irfan that the shaan e nuzul of this verse was to do with the ansar of madina. the verse is madani.

yesterday at this event, pir sayyid irfan shah mash'hadi hafizahullah explained the verse: 042.023 Say: "No reward do I ask of you for this except the love of those near of kin." he said that one leading khariji of pakistan argued that this verse does not refer to imams hasan and husain radiyAllahu ta'ala anhuma because it is a makki sura and during the makkan period, ali and fatima radiyAllahu ta'ala anhuma weren't even married so there is no question of hasnain ridwanullahi 'alaihim. shah sahib said that this argument is wrong due to a few reasons: 1. the qur'an is applicable today and hasnain became included in the family of the prophet sallAllahu 'alaihi wasallam and are therefore included in near of kin even if they weren't there at the revelation of the verse. 2. 'ali and fatima were present at the time of revelation so the khariji has to include them at least. 3. sadrul afazil badrul amasil mawlana naimuddin muradabadi writes in khazayin al irfan that the tafsir of abdullah ibn abbas radiyAllahu ta'ala anhuma is that this verse was revealed in madina. the sura is makkan but this particular verse was revealed in madina so it does include hasnain karimain radiyAllahu ta'ala anhuma. shah sahib said that ibn abbas radiyAllahu ta'ala anhu said himself that i know the place and time of revelation of every verse of the Qur'an and why not when rasulAllah sallAllahu 'alaihi wasallam did du'a that Allah make abdullah a scholar of the Qur'an.
