Sometimes tasawwuf is translated as monasticism. If so, it just needs to be explained that Islamic monasticism differs to Christian. E.g. celibacy.

Tasawwuf is part of Islam. Hadith e Jibril. It's not a separate entity that only choice people undertake. Or one has to go to a monastery or nunnery. Every Muslim should try to be sufi which simply means purifying his heart, 24/7. Whether he goes into seclusion or is the CEO of a FTSE 100.

    Assalamualaikum brothers,
Can you please elaborate the differences between Monasticism and Tassawuf. Quite a large number of Pseudo-Salafis paint tassawuf as a form of Monasticism.

The following is taken from Pseudo-Salafis site:
Those who claim that Islam brought a kind of monasticism are making a false claim, because monasticism is a part of the deviant Christian religion, from whom some innovators among the Muslims adopted it, such as the Sufis.

I would really appreciate if brothers expose this deliberate blurring, done by the Pseudo-Salafis, of a rather distinct line between tassawuf and Monasticism.

    Jazak Allah.
