masha Allah Sidi AH. you have polished the mirror until it is shining!
i hope you don't mind. i am very sorry, but i could not resist it. it is such a good translation; and all it needs is a few minor tweaks.
It is the journey to Madina and I am teary-eyed; oh, teary-eyed!
My brow is furrowed and my feet are faltering; oh, faltering!
I am headed towards Madina; and like a criminal -
My eyes downcast and my body trembling; oh, trembling!
Someone's hand has lent me support, otherwise
How could I travel these paths, so difficult; oh, difficult!
How low am I and how lofty is the visage of the Sacred Tomb
My gaze rises towards it but glances only furtively; oh, furtively!
The slaves of Muhammad [sallAllahu alayhi wa sallam] can be identified from afar
They, with hearts enraptured, and heads wistful; oh, wistful!
Reaching Madina, I have learnt what glory really means!
The air so pure; oh, pure! and ambience venerable; oh, venerable!
Lost, is though eyesight; intact remains insight
Madina, I have seen; but yet remains unseen; oh, unseen!
Iqbal* who was, until yesterday, proud of his cheerful nature
Now, in separation from Madina is so sorrowful; oh, sorrowful!
madine kaa safar hai aur maiN namdeedah namdeedah
jabeeN afsurdah afsurdah, qadam laghzeedah laghzeedah

kahaaN maiN aur kahaaN ye raastey peycheedah peycheedah
kahaaN main aur kahaaN us roza e aqdas ka nazzaarah
nazar us samt uTh-tee hai magar duzdeedah duzdeedah
ghulaamaan e Muhammad duur se pahchaaney jaatey haiN
dil e girveedah girveedah,* sar e shoreedah shoreedah
madina jaa ke hum samajhe taqaddus kis ko kehte hain
hawaa paakeezah paakeezah fazaa sanjeedah sanjeedah
basaarat kho gayee lekin baseerat tau salaamat hai
madina hum ne dekha hai magar naadeedah naadeedah
vohi iqbal jis ko naaz tha kal khush-mizaaji par
firaaq e taybah meiN rahta hai ab ranjeedah ranjeedah
[*most likely as i don't know the original]
I was just watching Geo TV (channel 815 on Sky) and a video of this naat was on, sung by haji siddiq ismail sahib (Allah bless him); what surprised me was that the video also had a running translation with subtitles. This translation looked familiar --and then I recognised it as my own!! It was the one above in this thread. At the end of the video where it gave the name of the artist, poet, director etc. I was amused to find it had, translator naqshbandi jamati!!!
someone just jacked my translation and used it. oh well...
I hope it gets accepted in the Court of the Leigelord and Master صلى الله عليه وسلم for whom it was done. ameen.

The Iqbal* who was, till yesterday, proud of his cheerful nature
Is now, in separation from Madina, always so sorrowful, so sorrowful!
* nb: this is not, as far as I am aware, Allama Iqbal but some other poet called Iqbal.
This naat has been sung by many naat-khaans, most famously Siddiq Ismail.
May Allah and His Habib, Our Leige-lord and Master, صلى الله عليه وسلم, accept it from me and forgive me, and all of us, our sins in this sacred month for the sake of the Ghawth al Azam and the mashaikh of silsila e aaliyah Naqshbandiyyah and all the awliya of all times. amen!
I hope you brothers enjoyed it.
