I am currently reading about the infamous British spy and traitor Kim Philby, who was working as a double agent for the Soviets whilst working for the British MI6 (and who was part of the most famous Spy Ring in history, the Cambridge Four), when I discovered that his father was considered the leading Arabic scholar of his era in the West and actually lived in Arabia for many many years and converted to Islam, taking the name, Abdullah, and served amongst other things as an advisor to Saud ibn Abd al Aziz. He had an extraordinary life as detailed below

It seems that quite a few Britons of that era, Eton educated and members of the Establishment, were great adventurers and open-minded and quite a few seem to have become Muslim.

(This attitude of theirs of open mindedness is one reason IMHO that they made much better administrators than any other of the Colonialists)
