Brother MHR, what is wrong with Muslim Sunni? you choose to be exclusive before being inclusive I choose to adopt the opposite stance which in my view is more beneficial. We all have different viewpoints. Let's be clear, I personally beleive that anyone who denies the One God, denies the finality of Prophet Muhammad Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam, insults or holds hatred against our Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam his family or companions as a non-muslim. Anyone who beileives it is ok to profess to the above is clearly misguided. This does not mean that a person who does not speak out against such people regards them as being Muslims. We have scholars that have have different agendas some spend most of their time refuting others that beleive in the One God and the Final Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam. On the other hand there are other scholars who are focussing on the large majority of the population that are unaware of who our Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam is and have no comprehension of the One God. There are over 6 billion people in the world today ... around 1.5 billion people are regarded as being Muslims (25%). Our Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam preached and sent invitations to non believers ranging from the servants to world leaders. I personally see much more benefit in reaching out to 75% of the global population that are unaware. So we have to understand on occasions certain scholars have a different audience in mind. There are different paradigms and different frames of reference when preaching to an audience not familiar with the religion. The Ayat (41:6) demonstrates this (Kanzul Iman): Proclaim (O dear Prophet Mohammed - peace and blessings be upon him), “Physically I am a human like you - I receive the divine revelation that your God is only One God, therefore be upright towards Him and seek forgiveness from Him”; and woe is to the polytheists. - Every major tafsir points to the clear fact that this Ayat was directed at the non-believers alone. Sahabas at the time would never profess to our Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam as being a simple human like you and me but this Ayat was revealed for the non-believers as a gesture for them to reflect on the torment they unleashed on the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam.
No offence met, M1S2. Of cource We are Muslims. But what about the Ahmadiyyah? They say they are Muslims. Are they really? What about the deviants who disrespect the Blessed Ashaab-e-Karaam Radiallahu Ta'ala 'Anhum? They are also disguised as 'Muslims'. The deviants who say that Muslim and Hindus are brothers. They also call themselves Muslims. People who say that Ram and Krishna are Prophets of Islam. They are also called 'Muslims'. So all such people are 'Muslims' aren't they? If they are Muslims according to you, then try reducing your level of tolerance a bit. The Ahl as-Sunnah wa al-Jama'at are Muslims. And I say this with all responsibility. But the Ahmadis who do not believe in finality of prophethood of Huzoor Sallallahu 'Alayhe Wasallam , are definitely not Muslims, nor are the Deviants who disrespect the Blessed Prophet Sallallahu 'Alayhe Wasallam . PS- I suggest a better username "Sunni Muslim"
Brother MHR, would you class yourself as Pakistani/Indian (or a citizen of the country you come from) before classing yourself as a human being? We all testify in the Kalimah-e-Shahadat: I bear witness that none is worthy of worship but Allah, the One alone, without partner, and I bear witness that Muhammad [peace be upon him] is His Servant and Messenger. What comes first? Servanthood, a common attribute of the beloved Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam shared with all humans/jinns. The unique attribute follows afterwards. My username follows the same principles as that of the Shahadat. You can provide arguments on my philosophy in an amicable manner if you so wish but to disparage and insult me on the basis of a my good-hearted intentions just doesn't seem right. The whole point behind my username is the fact that some of us only focus on what differentiates us from others above everything else. If we are truly to bring others towards the right path then we need to increase our tolerance levels a little and understand that others have different frames of references. We can't automatically assume that opposing parties will quickly appreciate our views without trying to understand their viewpoint. If the message and mission of our beloved Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam is to continue then we need to start by focussing on our common attributes and qualities, develop a dialogue and commence from there. These are the methods of the true Sufis and much can be learned from the lives of Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti, Maulana Jalaluddin Rumi etc. I would rather make a Non-Muslim comprehend the existence of God and our Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam rather than spend my time arguing with people who already accept God and his Messenger Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam. I see more value in this action and certain Shaykhs who get abused and insulted on this forum recognise this looking at the bigger picture.
Very rightly commented upon by Sidi AbdalQadir. Btw M1S2, can you please explain, or rather justify what is meant by "Muslim 1st and Sunni 2nd"? I am really curious to know. You mean to say that Ahl as-Sunnah wa al-Jama'at is something out of Islam? Because when someone asks me I say - "Al-Hamdulillah I am a Sunni Muslim." What do you say then, "I am Muslim first and Sunni second"?
