AbdalQadir time to move along! will check pm's.

actually, the union jack has three crosses on it. and the head of britain is also the official head of the church of england titled as "defender of the faith" of christianity (some fools think that she's secretly a sayyidah and a waliyyah!!!!)

i think it is an overreaction for the cake part. asim might have not thought about the flag or conquistador; i doubt that it even crossed his mind when he accepted that cake, that nike is a goddess of greek mythology, after which nike as a shoe making company is named.

how many people who buy nike shoes or swiss tools/drugs/chocolates or chevrolet cars think of the background of these symbols? many christian countries of europe have a cross on their flags. if you have a british passport, you are carrying a cross.

this is like accusing one of being a nazi, if they buy an ibm product.
how many DBAs know that oracle was a soothsayer and the oracle of delphi was the most famous of them all. kali unix is a common tool used for penetration testing; does it mean that using that OS makes you someone who believes or respects hindu myths and gods?

when someone wears the robe of 'ilm he is expected to have maintain a dignity that matches it. Scholars need to connect to the youth but they should also draw the line somewhere. All right we'll lose them if we keep telling them don't do this and that all the time but that doesn't mean we can join them just to show 'I am one of you'. Was that the way of our scholars of past?

If watching football is mubah then it would be a different matter.
I don't know how this football match thing stands from shariah point of view - because as per one opinion attributed to Imam Malik ('alayhirraHmah) the awrah is lesser than navel to knee - in which case, if this dispensation were to be applied, then only from this perspective there would not be an issue. Also, the hukm of the actual object does not apply to its reflection - such as, as per shafis atleast, looking at a woman's reflection in the mirror is not haram unless it excites passions. And those ulema who deem video to be halal they categorize it together with the reflection in a mirror. If this rukhsa is made use of then the hukm would change although it being lahw and the cheer-leaders, advertisements, music in the background, missing obligations and fardh prayers are issues that will have to be considered.

BUT this would still be a rukhsa and a scholar, one who people look up to, should always go for that which is based on more taqwa and azimah, even if he doesn't criticise those who take the rukhsa opinion.

Cricket is a famous sport in India but with IPL it has reached new levels of depravity. Scholars in my area will tell you the hukm if asked and perhaps also in a khutba etc. but will not harp on about it all the time - nonetheless they don't join people in watching it.

taqwa is what makes a scholar's words reach a persons's heart and have a lasting effect on his character.

    ----------------

the argument that he's done lots of good work is neither here nor there - as inquisitive has said - the ahkam of the shariah are same for both the wali as well as the fasiq - but I agree that those who can approach him should do so. Allah is Al-Gani. He can get the work of His deen done through the hands of whoever He wishes. That doesn't mean the person is free of all blame.

    ---------------

I think that his and his teacher's stance towards pseudo-sufis like murad and inviting junaid jamshed for a sunni event- these are bigger problems than watching football. They should be talked to about this.

    Allah knows best.

I was not comparing Asim to those I mentioned. Rather, my point was that we can not overlook major faults just because they are doing good work too.

If we carry on overlooking their faults and keep lifting them despite then this does not befit the status of Sunnis.

It was Hafiz al-Millah (as far as I can remember) who said that:

'If a Deobandi saw his imam in the cinema then he wouldn't say anything to him and would defend him. Whereas, if a Sunni saw his Imam in the cinema then he would scold him and tell him to leave despite him being in the cinema as well. This is the Ghayrah of a Sunni.'

But it seems that this Ghayrah has gone. In the same way the Deobandis defend the blasphemous statements of their elders. Many "Sunnis" too are now hell-bent on defending the major erroneous statements of people like Yaqoubi, Hamza Yusuf, signatories of the Amman Message.

Imam Asim has been asked about football a few times in social networking websites but no response. I agree that he is doing good work with the youth BUT we shouldn't ignore everything wrong he does for history tells us that those who have done this have perished.

    1) take my word for it he reads these forums all day.
    2) Ask Agent X he has spoken to those very close to him
    3) He was approached by brothers up north and was not willing to change his ways
    4) We can basically say that many people are unaware. Lol

I can't believe that now we will say that even he is not sulla kulli. [ed:noori-personal attack removed]

Have you approached him and told him? Or is he expected to know by way of ilhaam?

@kattarsunni - I agree, although saying that, i once approached Adil Shahzad regarding a few things he said, nothing on aqaid but incorrect nonetheless, he refused to reply to me, but yes, Asim should be approached and informed not named and shamed for something he may not be aware of

First the poor man was criticized for watching a match then eating a cake. Now his sunniyat is being questioned whats next the colour of his socks. If a person does have a problem with all these things i got a very simple solution just go and approach him. Let me tell you haters out there something the reason i love and have the utmost respect for people like shaykh Asrar is that whenever and whoever he had a problem with. Be that (wahabis deobandis fake sufis whoever) he approached them in person and this is not something he just recently started doing. His being doing this since the age of 13

Its a great shame you place some people within the same bracket as Jimmy Savile and the Pope. Spiderman is right. And so is Ethical Barelawi.
Asim has done great work and will do great work. He is an asset.

Any concerns you should go and see him in person. Remember Hamza and Shaykh Yaqoubi were contacted and remain on their position. And watching a football match and having a cake is not comparable to what Hamza did.

    @spiderman: How are thing brother?

I agree with Spiderman. Imam Asim is amazing for someone so young. For ages we were bemoaning the lack of a charismatic hardcore Sunni English-speaking aim to attract the young generations and when we finally get one -- Asim Hussain -- may Allah give him a long long life -- all other Sunnis can do is nitpick on the internet behind anonymity.
It is a shame. No one is sinless apart from Prophets (and some saints who are protected -- mahfuz -- such as the Aimah of Ahlul Bayt or Ghawth al AZam etc.) and yet we rush to find faults with our scholars -- well those we don't like anyway.

What's him crime? Did he kill someone? Lie? No, he watched a football match and accepted a cake which someone sent him!
No wonder Sunni youth turn to Deobandis and others when Sunni scholars are bashed in this way. All those criticising Imam Asim should apologise to him and do tawba. I have nothing but respect for one so young yet so pious and on the path of God. What's the saying? Tawbah-e-javaanii, sheva-ye-payghambarii.

Give the poor fellow a break! He's turned hardened criminals into mosque-going namazis. What have you done?

The reason why us sunnis dont move forward is because unfortunately a lot of us just like nitpicking at everything. Just look at our conferences the molvi has to practically beg people to come and promise lankar. If your so concerned my friend why dont you get off your backside and go and approach Imaam asim im sure his in bradford. But you rather be a keyboard warrior. Get a life

Hats of to Imam Asim for his brilliant wok with the youth. I met many brothers who were in a despicable state and changed there life styles after listening to the Imaam. The imaam is only 25 something a lot could not achieve in there whole life time.

plz let me re-emphasize. The Barcelona Flag is a conquistador flag! They were foremost in responsibility for attacking Muslims all over the Mediterranean. They were the fingers of the kafir popes in Rome.

Aragorn, their kingdom, once had a Muslim population that was eliminated over 200 years, and foreigners planted instead. Massive land estates and farming villages wiped out. Worst religious cleansing of an entire nation ever in Europe.

They were responsible for the kaffirazation of Murcia. If you have heard of Ibn Abbad al Mursi, then he is a Mursi because he was born in Murcia!. Spain and Portugal and their flags are historic enemies of Islam and Muslims being the right hand of kuffar of Europe.

In fact, spain and portugal are the worst genocidal, power, and gold hoarding kafir kingdoms i have ever seen. They are among the leading shaytans on earth.
