The point is Shaykh Asrar has mentioned all these concerns that us sunnis have , since he began publicly speaking. And rest assure and you can ask Shaykh yourself the high usually does not last, it will not be long untill some ego possessed trouble maker will want him to refute somebody.

I HOPE EVERYONE CAN PROVE ME WRONG.

The speech by Shaykh Asrar was epic, tackled all the questions in my mind and also highlighted what brother wasim mentioned that refutation is a sideline thing & the general focus should be on learning, reading, teaching & being proactive for the betterment of sunniyat & islam as a whole... he tackled all this & much more. May Allah reward him for his sincerity in saying it how it is.

Shaykh Asrar is one of a kind, today he made a speech that should be etched on every Sunni youngsters heart. How everyone's lustful desires are for him to refute others-yet after refuting what next?

We need to go back to basics Islam and the basic foundations and principles of Islam by carrying out obligatory worship and the prophetic Sunnah of the beloved prophet sall Allah hu aleyhi wa Salam. Why do we make things complicated for ourselves when in essence if we follow the basics of practising the deen everything else will fall in to place.

He made some very important points on our current state as Sunni-Barelvi on how we like to hear scholars refute one another yet we have no desire to learn or establish study circles in our own communities. Study circles that that benefit everyone not just a select group of people from a certain tariqah or groups that are attached to social structure.

He went on to mention the current disease facing Sunni Youth of using Facebook-on one hand quoting and advocating Maslak e Ala Hazrath but at the same time smoking hooker/sheesha the next day. What kind of Maslak e Ala Hazrath is this you are propogating but this is nothing but making mockery of Maslak e Ala Hazrath.

He also mentioned how social media such as Facebook, twitter, forums play an instrumental role in this social disease of inferiority complex where by the common brown muslim thinks the white face is better than the common brown Muslim but in reality it is not like that.

Some other points he mentioned which really are important are that people need to stop acting and start practising by learning the fardh al ayn, no point in refuting others when our basics are not right. He further went on to mention that how as a Sunni community that is involved in the UK Parliament have failed to talk about issues that matters to us-but instead over the past years we have been grasping for funding from central government. Yet when our Sunni Masjid up and down the United Kingdom were built on Halal money by early migrants who come to this country and worked their socks off day and night so why do we need such funding.

Shaykh also mentioned about the current state of Imaam in the UK and their involvement with the government and where actually do their priroroties lie.

Brilliant speech by Shaykh Asrar. Said it as it is today. Overall message: Sunnis need to become proactive and stop beating around the bush. Refutations are a side thing. Don't let refutations ruin this great forum.

and this also ensures, more or less, that most people coming to such a scholar are themselves sincere and mature and not the frivolous fan-culture diaspora seeking membership in a slightly more respectable fan-club......

if we think like marketing people and behave like knowledge/guidance is like marketing a commodity, this is what happens.

if a scholar is upright and sticks to principles and is known for being knowledgeable, staunch, sincere, selfless and dedicated, people will flock to him. conversely, an upright scholar should not dilute his principles for the purported reason of gathering a larger following; nor does a huge following guarantee that the teacher/guide is rightly-guided.

the point is that devbandis use this association to claim that they are approved by and are admired by, say, shaykh fulan. and then throw the conclusion: therefore, there is nothing wrong with our ulama or our books. so you will be handed taqwiyatul iman - which according to gangohi is faith personified: (ayn iman) and the rest of the books.

if a shaykh KNOWS of all this and disapproves, he has no business going to their masjid - particularly in a free country, where you don't have to fear reprisals. the scholar should not only abstain but make it known that he is against them and their deviant beliefs.

    ---
sub'HanAllah, if a time-traveller from the 18th century arrived in our age, he may be surprised at how we explain the obvious.

    ---
if the shaykh refutes their beliefs and places emphasis on sunni-wahabi differences in THAT gathering, he is certainly allowed to go. but the question is, will they allow him to say things against their school of thought? or will the shaykh have the courage to slap them in their own dens?

if he does not, and i could wager that they will not say anything that will ruffle feathers, the message that is sent to the following people:
the message that these people receive is that there is nothing wrong with this (wahabi-devbandi) masjid and these groups and their scholars. else, why would this 'sunni' shaykh come here and be friendly, cozy (probably even praise their maulvis)? if you tell them to keep away from wahabis, they will tell you: 'your mawlana/shaykh/pir doesn't think so. who are you to criticise them?'

yes, but if any scholar has the courage to go their event and publicly criticise their beliefs, ideas, deviance, their deplorable lack of respect concerning the Messenger of Allah sallAllahu alayhi wa sallam etc., (read that burnable book tafwiyat al-iman if you don't believe me), then such a scholar is indeed doing good service to sunnis.

an adage in urdu: "the elephant has a set of teeth to chew and another (tusks) to show."

if this be the ostentatious reason for 'sunni' shaykhs to attend devbandi/wahabi gatherings, will they have the courage to give that message? or will this be used just as a justification for attendance, and then numerous excuses will be offered for not "getting the message across"?

for example, 'the topic of the talk was something else' 'we were only talking of the excellence of the Messenger sallAllahu alayhi wa sallam' etc. all you need is a license to attend, excuses will come down in torrents.

Lol nobody is saying he should drop his topic to answer the questions, I merely said if they hold or held a question & answer session then people would have a opportunity to get clarification on matters, but that is the Shaykhs perogative etc.. even if they did hold such a session at end of events, I highly doubt individuals like sacrd would ask anything or attend...

Anyway it waa just me airing my thoughts, nothing more really... the event in itself shall be a blessed one In-shaa-Allah and im sure many from here will attend and benefit from it In-shaa-Allah

Last time i checked the poster it read in defence of the prophet ( sallahi alahi wasalam), not is Shaykh Asrar kushti with Shaykh Yaqoubi. If it will make everyone feel better I personally asked Shaykh Asrar about these issues and he in private and public stressed on the point that he only is interested in teaching people.

The uloom of hadith, Quran classes are practically empty people dont want to learn that. But these lectures are full because people come to see if the speaker will discuss these sort of topics. I personally will advise Shaykh Asrar to talk on what he is called upon to talk about.

Just thinking out loud - what is wrong with this in of itself (given situation of sunnis - see below)? If a Shaykh does not compromise on sunni aqayid, then what is the issue?

@abu Hasan has mentioned some points here which can make it an issue (e.g. common public begin listening to the bidyis speeches):
But in the Western world, how can sunni Shaykhs reach out to the masses that attend deobandi / wahaabi masaajid? i.e. the common folk that simply go to pray, attend jumuah, attend a few talks here and there, etc.? Common folk that don't know any better about differences between sunni aqayid vs. deobandi / wahaabi. Vast majority of masaajid in North America are run by the deos / wahaabis. By attending their events as speakers, sunni Shaykhs will be able to get their message out to a population they normally don't have access to and ideally pull them towards sunniyat. Alternatively, they can choose to remain isolated from the greater Muslim populations and continue to preach to the choir so to speak.

I don't know the right answer, just thinking out loud...

Yes. Shaykh asrar should deliver his talk as planned. he knows what needs to be done and so too the organisers, I'm sure.

very true indeed brother Aqdas, it would however be good to hear Shaykhs Asrars position on Yaqoubi Sahib, many on here who are from Birmingham say that he has said this or that during various talks in Birmingham that clarify he refrains from Yaqoubi Sahib.

But to be honest us northerners haven't heard it, so It would be a point of charity for some, even myself as I would have heard directly instead of it being something from a forum via a unidentified individual statement. Although I do believe Shaykh Asrar refrains from having anything to do with Yaqoubi sahib due to valid reasons, many others I know follow both of them thinking both are kushti with one another.

But as you mentioned it is totally Shaykh Asrars choice if he wishes to discuss such matters at this event or any other or in private.

As for sacred turning up.. there's more chance of seeing batman wearing supermans red underpants lol

tbh, I think shaykh asrar has more important things to do than to answer braindead zombies about issues that are so clear in the shariah. I mean, how does any sane, adult muslim not know the answer to things like:

    1. should hamza invite perennialists like nasr?
    2. should shaykh yaqubi refute hamza for doing so?
    3. is shaykh yaqubi wrong for calling shia our brothers?
    4. is shaykh yaqubi right to say we should keep theology in classrooms and not bring to the jumu'ah khutbah?
    5. should shaykh yaqubi be attending events in devbandi "masjids" even though he's well aware of their beliefs?
    6. is hamza wrong for saying islam isn't the exclusive truth?

but, it's up to the organisers if they have an open Q&A and then up to shaykh asrar if he wishes to answer.

    Agree great looking event

And I think it would depend more on if those that want answers such as sacred have the bottle to turn up and ask

I think this is gonna be a great event In-shaa-Allah

I personally like and listen to Shaykh Asrar & Shaykh Naveed and also Maulana Nabeel, I'll be totally honest and admit I don't bother following Imam Ajaz Shaami, his never really appealed to me, would have been better in my view to have someone like Maulana Ibrara Shafi to have filled that spot instead, thats just me personally, obviously others may prefer Imam Ajaz.

I guess this would be a good opportunity to ask Shaykh Asrar about the issues many people are keen to hear his answer on, like the Yaqoubi sahib stuff, Hamza, Dante and various other things that people on here are hoping they could get clarification on.

But I guess this would depend on if they will hold some sort of questions & answers session at the end of the event
