But is this really a solution to discord as the common people in each city or region will say why is this other city doing it separately to us, etc? They won't have a clue what's going on

I think the solution provided in the video may have worked fine in the days where communication across the globe wasn't instant- a region or city would decide the day of eid and the common purpose wouldn't necessarily know what's going on in a neighbouring region because of lack of access to telecommunications and the like.

I think the fitna cannot be resolved by delegating authority now to an individual in each city for the above reason. Also because people wouldn't agree on any process or alim in the first place, everyone would disagree.

The better solution is to educate the public as to why the differences exist. People who understand these differences don't really cause the fitna- it's usually the ignorant ones

One Faiz Rasool, who has a history of making such announcements. Apparently he is from Ghulam Rabbani's camp and has been kicked out from several masajids.

BTW who is this one person from London who announced Eid for the whole nation? First time I heard about it.

Also when the Shaykh speaks about nominating one alim from each city can he clarify if that includes Wahabis and Deobandis? This is very important as many of the common awaam in UK don't even bother about basics of aqaid so to them irrespective of aqaid an alim is an alim. So do these lay people gets to choose the alim?

Also if he could have elaborated a bit on the criteria of sighting the moon that would have been beneficial to the public.

A lay person can easily interpret that the Sunnis in UK are going against the "majority" who follow the Saudi moon sighting thereby causing fitna. Here in Glasgow alims from all masjids (Sunni and non Sunni) meet to discuss Eid announcement, then most time the other aqaid simply follow the announcement of Saudi and we this have two Eids.
