Out of curiosity, I googled Arab Hareesa and it says 'Meat porridge’. Looks thick in consistency and whitish in most pics, doesn’t really look like the Haleem I know of. And I've always pronounced Haleem with a ح. Would also be confusing to call it kichda which is thicker and a totally different dish imo.
googled a bit, and got these two links: http://www.al-eman.com/الكتب/مجمع الزوائد ومنبع الفوائد **/باب في الهريسة/i125&d88282&c&p1 https://www.islamweb.org/ar/fatwa/51105/رتبة-حديث-أين-أنت-من-أكل-الهريسة
Rather than ask us to change the name of the dish, shouldn't the maulana's be teaching us correct pronounciation instead so that there's no mix up?
https://ar.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/هريس#:~:text=الهريس أو الهريسة أو سيد,وما بين قوام طبق الدامبلنغ. this wiki page for the Khaleejis version too says something about Prophet 3alaihis salam consuming it
Btw, Harees (3alaihis salam) with ح and ص is one of Huzoor's 3alaihis salam name, so what abt the adab angle there, even if spelling is different but people especially desis mostly will pronounce both words similarly food item is spelled هريس, at least in Arabic
Someone Arab (can't remember if Sunni or shia) told me that Huzoor 3alaihis salam recommended Hazrat Ali radi Allahu 3anhu to eat harees and it helps in building male vitality. 1. Is there a hadith in Ahlus Sunnah for it? 2. If yes, does anyone know the recipe for the harees that was eaten in Prophet 3alaihis salam time? Afaik, quite a few Arab cultures have their versions of harees, the Egyptians, Yemenis, Khaleejis, Moroccans (harsa), and of course us desis (haleem/harees) - essentially a mixture of wheat, grains, and pulses, yes? (Please correct me) with meat (and masalas) for us desis. North indians & pakistanis - until a few yrs back everyone used to call it haleem, then we were told it's not allowed to call it that coz Al-Haleem is one of Allah's names. (People are told to call it khichda or laheem instead, khichda actually originally being a slightly different dish with same ingredients as far as us northies are concerned) 3) If anyone knows Ala Hazrat's or Mufti Azam Hind's (rahimahumullah) ruling on it (permitting or forbidding calling it haleem) plz do advise. Hyderabadi/Deccan - as per my friends, there's two versions of the story as I've heard... 1) it always was called harees 2) just like us northies, they too used to call it haleem until a few yrs back when the maulanas said no and asked them to call it harees instead. If it has background in hadith, it's just that much better to call it harees. Reason for investigating - attributing it to hadith requires sincere investigation. May Allah help us all.
