I wasn't really questioning, like I wasn't looking for a definitive answer, I felt it was quite cool that we are not born with fully developed cognitive abilities and just felt like posting it on the forum.

On another note, subhanallah I agree with your point. Although you thought it was a weird question u identified a very nice wisdom :)

weird question. to answer that, one must first explore the reasons why we are not born with fully developed cognitive abilities.

if you look at it from my perspective, this is actually, a proof for you that Allah ta'ala exists even if you don't know or remember. you were in the world of souls, and you cannot remember. but know, that like your parents who loved you and cared for you and nourished you, the Absolute Giver, created you from nothing, brought you in existence. (and there is no similitude with creation in His Divine Actions or Attributes).

when one cannot deny the favours of parents, just because they cannot remember it; how can they deny favours of their Lord, Creator - just because they do not remember it?

    subHanAllah.

    Allah ta'ala knows best.

I found it interesting that sincere actions and feelings the parents have while the child is growing is often during a period where he / she might not remember. And this is where the merit and reward lies maybe because they have to do it sincerely, they're not supposed to throw it in the child's face later on to make them feel guilty, but they have to do it in the moment for the child's sake not for any other reason..

Ah this is a good point, you said sometimes people do things for others and not expect any in return, so because the child's memory etc is still developing its ok if he doesn't remember certain things because the parents are doing it altruistically so its like a chance for them to be sincere and pure with the child not because the child will remember later on but out of pure love. This is nice, I agree with you.

It might also be a chance for the parents to develop as well and learn ?

Oh yes! The second point is true as well, that the child will interact with the parent in that moment even if he doesn't remember later on but he still responds.

Hmm that's true as well. What if he doesn't become a parent?

the same child, when he / she becomes a parent, will remember or realize.

the child mightn't remember long term, but certainly does short term. that's why even a 3 month old will recognise it's father and react to him.

    anyway, they will be rewarded:

    Salaam,
I was thinking the other day that parents tend to do a lot and sacrifice sometimes for their child / children during an age where they can't even remember or their memory isn't even fully developed. So the parents would remember quite a few scenarios where they shared intimate moments with their child but the child might not remember this when the grow older. They could probably only remember the events during their early childhood and adolescence etc.

I was just wondering why this may be the case? Why is it like this?

(I am asking to explore this, I am just curious. I think there are many reasons and purposes for this and every family may even have different opinions on this due to their experience.)

    :)
