The Beloved Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم loved perfume and instruced us, his slaves, to also love it and wear it. Wearing scents is a Sunnah. A famous hadith, paraphrased, states: Three things of your world are beloved to me: women, perfume and the coolness of my eyes is in prayer. aw qamaa qaal alayhisalatu wa salaam.

In his Sira series of speeches, commentating on this hadith sharif, Hamza Yusuf said that the Habib صلى الله عليه وسلم though naturally fragrant used to buy and wear the most expensive perfumes too. Shaykh Hamza said that though the Prophet was frugal in his perfect mode of living, in matters of perfume he صلى الله عليه وسلم was not. He said that wearing perfume was sadaqa since it is not the wearer whom it benefits but others around him who can smell it! (After a few moments the wearer of perfume cannot smell it on him or herself.)

So what is your favourite perfume?
Recently I have developed a love of perfumes and purchased loads! Including women's perfumes--which actually smell a lot better since they have higher concentrations of the perfume in them. (It is just clever marketing which has designated two identical perfumes in terms of ingredients as being 'male scents' and 'female scents'!)
Highly recommended come Chanel No. 5, Joy by Jean Patou (absolutely amazing), Mitsouko by Guerlian , and Parfums Pitchoulli by Micallef Paris, YSL Opium etc. In addition I have some perfumes which I use on very special ocassions such as No.1 by Clive Christian...

    How about you?
Also, I'd love to know which pure natural perfumes (made from only natural ingredients) --as opposed to synthetic ones--are available in the Arab world. Sadly natural musk (Arabic and Urdu: mushk) is no longer available since the musk deer from whose glands it comes is a protected species.
