the appellation muhaddith e barelwi is very common for him and i am amazed you have not read/heard it before.
All that answer from sayyidi Ala Hazrat says is that keeping hair which resembles that of a woman (or vice versa ) and for men to grow ponytails is forbidden. Btw Ala Hazrat is a mujaddid no doubt and imam of ahlus Sunnah but i am surprised to see him.addressed as Muhaddith e Bareilly as i have not seen him like that before.
as i said, this is what i was told by a teacher. perhaps someone can confirm or elaborate. thinking about it, perhaps it means hair that is considerably and visibly different in size. so a short back and sides may allowed and a step cut not! interesting and necessary thread.
i've been told that hair must be the same size all over, so things like under-cuts wouldn't be allowed. obviously, the hair of a man must not resemble wome's and vice versa.
Assalaamu 'Alaykum Keeping Long Hairs (Zulf) in Islam is Sunnat and so also is Shaving of The head. I want to know whether the various styles of keeping the hair and hairdressing allowed amongst the Ahnaaf? And is their any particular hairstyle which is prohibited? So that next time when i go to the hair-cutting parlour, I know what specifications to be given to the hairdresser. PS - Of cource the hair styles sported by punk-rockers is Na-Jaayiz ALLAH HAAFIZ
