Don't know both individuals but Magic did not affect the Mind of the Miraculous Blessed Prophet صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم and the reports about this incident are all weak in other books and the problematic reports in Sahih Bukhari occur in six places with the identical principle reporters in the first three narrators. There are internal contradictions with the six versions as well as contradicting the Qur'an as pointed out by Imam Abu Bakr al-Jassas al-Hanafi (d. 370) and other mut'akhirun. There is a huge discussion about the bukhari hadith on the issue and interestingly ALL of them are from Hisham ibn Urwa and no one else. And his reports when he was in Medina are fine but when He frequented Iraq, etc. it here that he heard reports from others who attributed it to his father Urwa and he inturn reported them as if he directly heard from his father. This is also pointed out by Ulama of Rijaal. Our contention is that this magic report is one such report. Insha'Allah! time permitting an article will written on this and also on Bukhari's version of hadith of qustuntunya and will be shared for analysis.

I came across a little tiff on Facebook between Haroon Hanif and Suleiman Ahmed (Atabek Shukrovs student).

Suleiman has been arguing not all hadith in Bukhari are to be accepted as they are disrespectful/contrary to our beliefs. For eg the Prophet sal Allahu 'alayhi wa sallam being afflicted by black magic and not knowing he had sexual relations with his wives. Another example he gave was the Prophet Muhammad alayhis salaam forgetting some parts of the Qur'an then being reminded later.

He goes onto argue that these ahadith are a greater insult than the Charlie Hebdo cartoons.

Whereas Haroon Hanif says all the ahadith are accepted.

I have heard Sunni Ulama say what Haroon Hanif has said. But it would be good to have some knowledgeable brothers address this academically.

    assalaamu alaykum
