  1. Masha allah, great answer by Shaykh Sayyid Irfan Shah sahib. He refers to a scholar called Shams Barelvi who has done thorough research on this matter and come to the conclusion that the book is definitely that of the Ghawth's :ra: but that certain passages have been added/forged.

The Shaykh also mentions that it is one of the qualities of this book that the Ghawth strongly defended the status of Hazrat Abu Bakr Siddiq :ra: in it against the Rafidis and such was his success in this that the Rafidis have been hating al Ghawth al Azam as much as they hate Hazrat Siddiq e Akbar ever since.

I have just had a look into a a couple of things.

corrections to my last post. Ruslan Moore is not Shaykh Muhtar, my mistake

There seems to be variant copies of al-Ghunya floating around

Does anybody know where to find manuscripts, access them etc?

Ruslan Moore is Shaykh Muhtar Holland may Allah reward him for his great efforts
He passed away not so long ago.

What is strange to me about al-Ghunyah is that it has gone unmentioned by any of Shaykh 'abdul Qaadir's students.

Ibn Qudaamah and Abdur Rahman al-Jawzi certainly do not share the same belief that the Ash'ariyah are Kaafir.

The fact that theres no Hanbali scholar on earth with isnaad or an ijaazah to teach this text is another sign. The book has not been passed down through the Hanaabilah.

Always beware of a book that is not spoken of in a historical sense, quoted from etc. I have long struggled to find any source reference for this book.

    Wa as-Salaam

    Assalaamu alaykoem,

I thought, let me show some etiquete, without the salaam, we miss the barakah. :)

I rely on scholars that I can understand. I don't want to contact Ruslan Moore because of this only. The actual person I want to contact is Shaykh Muthar Holland hafidu'Allaah.

    http://www.yanabi.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=4&threadid=31829&highlight_key=y&keyword1=ghunya
(There is a compiled list of scholars who rely on it, and quote it, thus proven it beloning to Ghauz Azaam, in compartive with some Pakistani orgin scholars who are unkown to the mainstraim jam`aah.)

Further it's worthy of mentioning that the grandson of Shaykh Muyhi`din Abd Al-Qadir Al-Jilani Alayhi Rahmatoelahi, Rukn al-Din, didn't mentioned any of this! Nor did Ibn Jawzi who maintained the Al-Jaylani's instute for a while!

Shaikh Syed Abdul Qadir Jilani mentioned that the text has been interpolated and gave evidences for it, thus not being authentic, see if you can locate the speech; i think someone may have transcribed that part of the speech. If i find it i will post it insha'Allah.

Brothe Ruslan Moore of al-Baz would be a good person to discuss this with since he collects manuscripts of the Shaykh's (Ghawth e Azam) :ra: works.

    Asalamu alaykum,

I have some questions pertaining to the authenticity of this text.

Is the book attributed back to the Imam with a Sahih isnad?

Does anyone have any information on the issue of its textual integrity in addition to what Sh. GF Haddad mentioned:
