Brother azizq, I have a life, al HamduLilAllah. Do you think I dont respect Habib Umar? He is the blood of Husayn Sayyidul Shuhadaa alaihissalam. But when it comes to Shari'a, Upholding Shari'a, the Din of RasulAllah salAllahu alayhi wa alihi wa sallam, his dignity, then sorry, but Habib Umar is not above Shari'a.

Shari'a does not command us to sit with people who openly attack Shari'a.

Habib Umar invited the British embassy to visit his "Dar al Mustafa". Why did he not at the same time give a letter of complaint to those kafirs, that your war in Afghanistan is ILLEGAL, and GET OUT OF Afghanistan, please.

    There is no analogy here.

    This is all irrelevant.

This is all irrelevant. Do you think I dont know this? Habib Umar cannot run away to California, while his people are in tribulation.

Irrelevant. What is Habib Umar doing at Zaytuna Institute right now? They are shayateen. They are Anti-Shari'a.

    Irrelevant stuff.

What Habib Umar is proving is exactly what hamza yusuf wants. That the lovely country Habib Umar is in right now, is better and tranquil than the mad Islamic World gripped back home. Basically, run away from the Muslim World, and migrate to the West, where you can get true peace. But this is all irrelevant to Suleiman brother's post, because his post is irrelvant and diversion. Though I know that brother suleiman did not mean to divert, but simply misunderstood.

As disheartening and heart-wrenching as they are, I do not usually get involved in such discussions surrounding contemperory figures, I felt it was my duty, however, to clarify a few points I think are being missed here.

The analogy between the current situation and that of the Socialist party rule of the junub, is seriously flawed at many levels.

Firstly, the crack-down on the personal practice of the din was much more severe than it is now; indeed, scholars would be abducted and muredered for simply calling to Allah and displaying the din publically, not because it threatened the state in any way, but rather because it was at odds with the ideology of the ruling elite: communism. Secondly, if we are going to insinuate a breach of the amanah the Mufti of Tarim, al-Habib Muhammad b. Salim b. Hafiz radhiy Allah 'anh put on his noble son, we must ascertain how exactly the Mufti took sides against the socialist reigime of the time. Those that are familliar with how sayyidi al-Habib Muhammad was abducted, they will know that it was as a result of Habib's da'wah to the tribes and people of Hadramawt. The reigime's agenda was to inhibit the propagation of religious ideas, whereas al-Habib Muhammad's agenda -- as a mufti and wali -- was obviously precisely the opposite. In other words, all al-Habib Muhammad did was spread his vast knowledge of Islam, and inspire the people to good works, radhiy Allah 'anh.

Now let us compare this to the current situation, and al-Habib 'Umar's response to it, hafizahullah. Firstly, the practice of the din is not at all outlawed in Yemen at the moment; the imposition of the shari'ah al-gharra' is clearly not the motivation for the protests. Secondly, al-Habib 'Umar is continuing to call to Allah, and spread knowledge just as al-Habib Muhammad did.

Though the fact that the individual practice of the din is not being threatened in Yemen, the reaction of the police to the perfectly legtimate and peaceful protests was certainly out of order; the deaths should not have occured at all, and frankly it was a disgrace. Indeed, they have only served to fuel the protests, such that Mr. Saleh is being forced to step down. al-Habib 'Umar hafizahuLlah has condemned killings:

    على كلِّ مَن كان وليَّ أمرٍ أو من الرعية أن لا يضرَّ ولا يؤذيَ الآخرين، ولا يستحلَّ شيئًا مِن دمائهم ولا أموالِهم ولا أعراضِهم بأيِّ وجهٍ من الوجوه.

"They emphasise to all the sanctity of people’s blood, property and honour, as the Messenger of Allah clearly emphasised this. They stress that no-one, whether they are the rulers or the ones being ruled, has the right to harm anyone else. No-one has the right to permit the spilling of another’s blood, the damage or wrongful taking of his property or for his honour to be damaged under any circumstances."

Members here seem to be calling for my direct, perhaps physical action from al-Habib:

"What is he doing in California There are no tribulations in California."

What precise action does Habib need to take? Go and negotiate with the mashyikh hashid, despite politics not being his realm of speciality? The people capable of doing something are indeed acting: Sh. az-Zindani, who incidentally -- despite practically leading the ahzaab al-mu'aradah (opposition parties), would co-orperate with Saleh -- has been taking an active role in calling for his removal. Of course, it is possible to cast aspersions as to the motives behind the moves of people like 'ali muhsin al-ahmar and sh. 'abd al-majid az-zindani, but they are the people of influence, and they are speaking up.

Perhaps none of the above matters to some people, simply because the true agitation they have with what Habib stands for is:

"sitting with the Gustakhs/modernists and perennialists at Zaytuna and its affiliated organizations in Oakland and the Bay Area"

If this is the case, please tackle the issues you have a problem with, and desist from citing flawed analogies when talking about respected and sincere scholars, from the ahl as-sunnah.

May Allah guide us to appreciate the sincere callers to Allah, his shari'ah and the implementation of his ahkam.

    Keep me in your duas,

    was-salam

Whose talking about uprisings? I mentioned none. You got the wrong message. Shaykh Nazim CONDEMNED the satanists and their democracy.

I am talking about Habib Umar being in California. Why is he in California? in the very country supporting his own yemen's destruction for a decade BEFORE the so called "uprisings"

Why does not Habib Umar condemn the country he is in right now and its evil system, the wars its waging in Islamic countries?

Why is he sitting with the Gustakhs/modernists and perennialists at Zaytuna and its affiliated organizations in Oakland and the Bay Area?

Sheikh Nazim also advised people not to get involved in these uprisings. The Sheikh advised people to move to the safety of the countryside. Those who get involved will regret it. We should distance ourselves from these events.

Habib Umar has to take sides here. Did not his father?

He cannot evade his responsibility. He was in Aden making a Mawlid procession not far from Abyan, where this tragedy happened.

Habib Umar should follow his father's example.

Habib Umar should know his priorities.

What is he doing in California  There are no tribulations in California.

A few days ago, as brothers and sisters remember, 50 people were shot dead in San'a. Almost all shots were to the head, neck, heart, chest. It was targeted killing.
