if we fear Allah more than jinn and black magic, this won't haunt us.
the dua for every such thing that haunts a person:

ma sha'Allahu kaan, ma lam ya-sha' lam yakun.
what Allah Wills happens; what He does not Will does not come to pass.

we should fear and hope from the Creator more than anything in the creation.

    ---
a'udhu bi kalimaatillahi't taammaati min sharri ma khalaq
i seek the refuge of Allah using His Perfect Words* - from the evil in His creation.

*literally seek refuge in the Perfect Words of Allah; ulama have said it means 'the quran' and since it is not created, and is a Divine Attribute, one can seek refuge in it. [futuhat al-rabbaniyyah]

    ---
no need to find out. recite yaseen. recite surah al-baqarah. and leave it for Allah ta'ala to remove the calamity from your path.

i had collected duas of morning and night from al-adhkar for my own reference. i will share it here [there might be a few mistakes - please help to correct]. some of these duas are to be recited 3 times some are 7 some 100. i was about to add but left it incomplete. however, here i am sharing - i will replace it soon. in sha'ALlah.

    Allah knows best.

this is squarely due to Sunni ulama and mawlanas propagating such - in word and deed; notwithstanding commercial aamils.

it's not just about tawizat. just go to youtube, there's a wazifa for everything from passing your board exams with flying colors to winning a cricket match to curing covid to marrying the girl of your liking (by imama wearing "tanatan" Sunnis no less)!

desis think wazaif will compensate for lack of work!

the general perception is that every time you have a problem, unless you rush to an aamil saab and get a ta'weedh - your sunniyyat is somehow wanting.

whereas, in the sharh to the hadith of 70,000 Muslims entering Jannah without reckoning - Imam Nawawi mentions that it is awla to abstain even from the permissible ta'weedh (posted by @abu Hasan in another thread).

I have seen personally that when you have a pressing need and people come to know about it - they begin suggesting all sorts of stuff - sometimes, even things that are clearly without a basis in shari'ah.

So this becomes another test in itself - are you swayed to non optimal means in your desperation to find a speedy solution to your problem?

the best course of action - is to double down on the sunnah and resolutely reject everything else.

Find out which sunan you are leaving and which you can easily perform - and add them to your daily schedule. Increase recitation of Qur'an, Nawafil and Durud Shareef - especially dalail-ul-khayraat.

    Always remember the ayah:

Isn't Allah sufficient unto His slave?

it is when things get desperate, your faith will be most sincere. and you will beseech Allah ta'ala fervently and with utmost sincerity.

this is why in times of such desperation - when you see no one can help except ALlah - one should ask for faith on iman. because worldly troubles will not endure. this is such a precious moment and is the time of acceptance of dua - and one should ask for two things in such a precarious moment:

    1. sincere love of the Prophet sallAllahu alayhi wa sallam
    2. death on faith for oneself and one's beloved ones.

if 1 is accepted, 2 is sure to follow. but just in case, don't forget to ask.

    wa billahi't tawfiq.

I agree and think the same thing. In fact when I first heard it I thought this sounds like black magic itself as opposed to a way of getting rid of it. Also, it just seems weird. No mention of Quran, dhikr, salawat, istikhara etc. but you need a hair and a t-shirt?

However, I have now heard about this practice from two separate people and just wanted confirmation. Were my initial thoughts (of running a mile) correct or does this actually have a basis?

Personally, I won't be engaging with these characters but when things get desperate you are willing to be humble and try things (of course nothing against the Sunnah). By try things I mean take the available asbaab after sincere dua.

The correct means will come when Allah Most High wills. Duas requested.

I agree that so many of these so called aamils are dodgy. Some of my thoughts:

    1. Most of what people think may be black magic might just be a mental health condition. They should consult doctors too
    2. People should never go to aamils who don't pray, etc. I wouldn't even go to one who has bad tajweed. Well, in general, I wouldn't go to one at all but that's me
    3. You get these aamils who tell you not to open the taawiz they give you. Surely that has to be dodgy. Why not open it unless you're doing something wrong yourself? My family once visited someone who gave a taawiz and said don't open it. Wasn't Arabic inside, wasn't abjad either. A script I didn't recognise (you can also find online taawiz that people have opened online and they have drawings etc inside them). Didn't use it in the end as a result
    4. I think dawat e Islami do taawiz etc. I would expect that they're fine to visit for these purposes but random aamils, no thanks.
    5. I'm certainly just an ignoramus so I'm not saying this from any base of knowledge but the hair and clothing thing- how do you know he's not gonna use these items to do black magic on you himself?
    6. This guy is pious according to who? Do the people recommending him know what piety looks like?

For clarity, I'm not saying the individual in question is dodgy, just wouldn't go there myself.

above sites are linked only for representational purposes. i do not endorse or recommend buying tawizat or seeking any ruhani ilaj over the net, even if they look authentic. before the days of ecommerce, people asked me if they should buy these two items from Muslim markets in bombay or delhi etc., and my response even then was that i personally wouldn't trust it unless i personally bought it from around close to Ala Hazrat's dargah or Manzare Islam where, at least back then, there wouldn't be any shoddy deals due to the shopkeepers being in close connection with senior Ridawi scholars and mawlanas

Sorry not being argumentative, but was Ala Hazrat anti- tawizat and amaliyat with nuqush and utilizing abjad etc.?

Tohfae Noori, for instance was sold in Bareilly as a tawiz coming down from the Noori Barakati shuyukh - https://www.flipkart.com/barkaati-tohfa-e-noori-handmade-silver-plated-sign/p/itmba18a011f91b7 even in Azhari Miyan's rahimahullah lifetime, and most probably still is being sold, as is the well known and famous tawiz ring of Bareilly - https://www.amazon.in/BARKAATI-HANDMADE-SAFETY-TARAQQI-KAROBAR/dp/B09TB5VX2S

At least the above two items are immensely popular and well known among Ridawis

Subhanallah. Jazakallah khair for your reply.

Another question. How can we tell the difference between black magic and a mental health issue?

there are many 'procedures' or amaliyat - whether they are genuine or just hocus-pocus is something we do not know. some even contain kufriyat and are gleaned from sorcery of the kuffar. al-iyadhu billah.

    --
personally, i stick to alahazrat's practice and advise anyone who cares to listen. stick to the awrad and wazayif mentioned in the hadith and/or in the works of reliable sufiyah kiram (for example like hizb al-bahr and hizb al-nasr) and stay away from EVERY thing else. i personally neither visit, nor recommend anyone to visit these aamils.

ma sha'Allahu kaan. ma lam yasha' lam yakun.
put your trust in Allah, and everything else upon earth is dust.

    Asalamu alaikum

Someone suspects a case of black magic against a family member. They go to a known pious person who they are told can help. The person says they need some hair and a piece of clothing of the person who potentially has the magic on them. Apparently, they will burn the hairs and the t-shirt to work out what is going on.

Is there any basis to this practice? Or should we run a mile?
