Let's not get too excited. Thousands also leave Islam in all but name too. But Sunnis need to position themselves with influencial figures and 'be in their ear'. I suggest the popularity of Islam is due to its uncompromising nature (thank scholars and mujahideen for that), its clear rule rook, it's clear theology, it's harmonious existence with the natural disposition of men and women and so on and so forth. Not to mention alot of non muslim eyes were opened when they visited a rich Muslim majority country in Qatar as opposed to the usual war torn, barely surviving nation.
https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2014/jan/28/maajid-nawaz-muslim-lib-dem-candidate-cartoon don't know if he still defends that blasphemy of 2014 (just saw it) or if he has changed --- see that other thread, and please give your ideas also - https://sunniport.com/index.php?threads/sunni-proselytization.14562/ social media influencers, activists and popular people like these need to be proselytized by Sunnis one that rings a bell is Asrar Rashid's recent interactions with Dilly Hussein of 5pillars. we need these kind of people to be at least taught the right aqidah and fiqh. whether or not they change their mind later, Allah knows one bad example is noman ali khan... he used to be a youtube influencer/ performer/ comedian, and now suddenly he is an "instructor" in Islam - how did that happen? did he attend any schools, even in his manhaj? of course people evolve over the years, but to suddenly go from a youtube performer to "Islamic teacher" you ought to have picked up some credentials along the way these kind of social media influencers, activists, and popular people with real or perceived goodwill for the Ummah at heart are equally influential to the common man and have good outreach, if not more, than outright shaykhs and imams (any manhaj) i don't know what Sunnis are doing in this regard. wahabis are the most active, followed by devs
