I’m not sure why Muslims in the UK, USA, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand so often fall short when it comes to seizing meaningful opportunities to positively represent Islam and the Muslim community to the wider public—especially when offered platforms with national or even global reach. Whether it’s a live BBC Eid special followed by an Eid celebration in the UK, or the national prayer service in the US, these are golden opportunities to showcase the beauty and depth of our faith—yet they’re often poorly executed.

Far too often, underwhelming Qur’an reciters are brought forward for these occasions. If no one local can deliver a recitation that truly stirs the soul, then bring someone from abroad who can. Likewise, when it comes to speakers, we need individuals who can genuinely connect with the broader public, especially the native white population. Figures like Hamza Yusuf, Abdal Hakim Murad, Musab Penfound, Yahya Rhodus or Umar Faruq Abd-Allah—despite any controversies surrounding them—are eloquent, thoughtful, and widely respected. These are the kinds of voices that can bridge the gap and leave a lasting impression.

Your second sentence implies you know who the shaykh is. Best to leave @HajiNaushah to it

Was Asim from Leeds supposed to appear on this? In the end, Ahsan and Habib Khandia participated. Asrar has always been there to support the late Mahroof Sahib and later Ahsan. What is Asrar’s stance on all of this?
