all cliches are fillers but all fillers are not cliches the filler article you linked had this statement below, apparently registered.
actually, most of these are filler words rather'n cliches, you know? basically, the reason being that we speak slower than we think and therefore we need fillers while more words are still in the pipeline. let us face it, we cannot escape fillers unless we are 110% disciplined speakers [or inscribing speakers on forums]; to be honest, the compilation is more about individual biases collected from poor speakers at work. the fact of the matter is, that i can't get my head round it at all! and to be fair, the piece does have some merit, but going forward, i would not sing from the same hymn sheet or like to touch base with individuals who can't stand a couple of harmless catchphrases. --- exactly!
