  1. Of course you can speak against innovators, in fact its obligatory as mentioned by Imam Nawawi in His Al Adhkar under the chapter "Guarding the Tongue" where he says:

Warning and Advising the Muslims against Evil – There are several perspectives to this, of which one is: Declaring someone unreliable in the field of narrating hadeeth and giving testimony. This is permissible to do, according to the Ijmaa’ (consensus of the Muslim scholars). Rather, it becomes obligatory due to the need for it. end quote

So from this we can see that when there is danger of the Religion being corrupted and people being misguided then it is obligatory to speak out against these individuals to warn the Ummah. This ruling definitely applies today to the study Qur'an, false pirs, fake fat bellied sufis whose followers say they can walk on water but can barely fit into their bath tub without almost falling over and drowning and the list goes on....

    Someone said:

'When you get the question: Salam Shaykh. What do you think about Shaykh...

Erm, I have a life. You should get one too. It's free.'

    ---
Wrong answer. Would the speaker say that about his own shaykh too...

Or would he praise him to the sky?

So, as you can see, it's not what he would answer at all times. It's a pick and choose scenario.

Isn't it the responsibility of ulama to warn against heretic scholars? What if I asked about The Study Quran and Hossein Nasr? Would this shaykh not warn me to stay away from kufr? Why would he knowingly expose me to perennialism?

If you can respond positively about your shaykh then why can't you respond negatively about an innovator? Which is more important?

  3. Ibn Abbas reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:

    مَا مِنْ آدَمِيٍّ إِلا فِي رَأْسِهِ حِكْمَةٌ بِيَدِ مَلَكٍ فَإِذَا تَوَاضَعَ قِيلَ لِلْمَلَكِ ارْفَعْ حِكْمَتَهُ وَإِذَا تَكَبَّرَ قِيلَ لِلْمَلَكِ ضَعْ حِكْمَتَهُ

There is no human being except that the wisdom of his mind is in the hands of an angel. When he shows humility, the angel is ordered to increase his wisdom. When he shows arrogance, the angel is ordered to decrease his wisdom.

    Source: Mu’jam Al-Kabeer 12771, Grade: Hasan

Please check this and the reference though as I cut and paste it when I came across the Hadith. If it is indeed a Narration that is Hasan, then it answers your question.

Non-Muslim parliamentarians speak out against the U.S. attack on Muslim travel.

    Yet,

Muslim scholars refuse to speak out against the U.S. academic who attacks Muslim beliefs.

Our scholars aren't even as principled as politicians...?

not only should scholars focus on knowledge, but they should also be worldly-wise and know the world in which we live.

one can strive to 'gain' knowledge - but what is the method to improve wisdom?

Scholars shouldn't only have knowledge, but wisdom too.

The efforts of Shaykh Asrar are truly admirable. Apart from the plethora of knowledge that he bears, he has a wise heart.

He has looked at the UK climate and seen that atheism, darwinism and agnosticism are amongst our biggest challenges.

So his efforts are concentrated on these areas nowadays.

He also uses his lectures to teach basic aqidah which is, again, a wise move.

Years ago, he destroyed wahabism as that was the need of the time.

It seems this young man recognises the huge responsibility that scholars have.

He considers the biggest fitnahs of any given month/year and forcefully refutes it.

There's no need to take pictures where the blessed green dome is in the background.

Is that the etiquette due to it? Being in the background? #Alahazrat said whenever you're in the holy city and your glance falls upon the dome, turn towards it!

And here we are, not around the city; but in the vicinity of the Prophet ﷺ with our backs to it.

And even if your back isn't towards it, and you're facing it, where is the attention of the person who sees your photo? Upon you or the blessed dome? Isn't the attention divided at the very least?

What are trying to show here?

If you want a picture of the green dome, take a picture OF the green dome - not a picture of YOU and that the dome is ALSO there.

For arguments sake, even if something isn't fard or wajib but is from the Sha'āyir al-Islam, then it must be defended.

E.g. when the Hindus tried to ban the qurbani of cows in the time of #Alahazrat, he passed a fatwa that qurbani of cow has now become wajib. He could've said, 'Fine. We'll start slaughtering sheep instead.' But because he was a mufti par excellence, he knew that qurbani of cow isn't wajib per se but is certainly from the signs of Islam - hence, must be defended.

So any Sha'āyir al-Islam that are attacked, we must defend. Even if they're not obligatory or necessary.

If that's the case for lesser acts, then what about those that are fard...

Those evil people who now wish to abolish the necessity of hijab must be challenged fiercely. This isn't an optional extra! It is a right of our sisters and a religious obligation upon them!

These enemies of Islam are calling for all our sisters to become major sinners by abandoning hijab. They're opening the doors of hell for them and aren't even scared of Allah ta'ala for preaching such enormities.

Only those who do not have a spine or greedy of remaining popular will buckle under pressure to give up their own values.

Why is it necessary to refute heresy? The following quote from #abuHasan is regarding a secondary aqidah issue and will help us answer:

"to the best of my knowledge, this is a matter of fadayil and interpretation of hadith. but neither is wiping on mests or mawlid or tawassul or qaSidah burdah.

if this is not contested and put to rest, this will open a door of fitnah among ahl al-sunnah which will only become worse and worser. if you do not believe me, look at the wahabis and devbandis - every successive generation lowers the bar further. nas'alu Allaha al-aafiyah."

    ---
This quote of abu Hasan is the simple answer why we MUST refute perennialism and other major fitnahs.

If we don't, Muslims will just think it's an acceptable interpretation! And the next generation will consider it an established doctrine!

Abu Hasan said that about a secondary issue. Then imagine what he'd say about perennialism which is out and out, absolutely, emphatically, unequivocally kufr!

Itmām al-Hujjah (itmām e hujjat) means 'completion of proof'.

It is a concept denoting that truth has been completely clarified.

Posts against perennialism and sulh kullism etc. are to alert the people. If they take heed, praise to Allah - if they don't, then the hujjah has been established.

Those warning against heresy want to be free of blame on judgement day if they're questioned: 'You knew about the fitnah. You were in a position to warn. Why didn't you?'

Ulama say that if you see something wrong in a person, then it's wajib to correct him if you think he'll listen. That's just for actions. E.g. if he's committing a makruh act in salah.

Then what about kufr? What about 'The Study Quran'? What about sulh kullism? These are beliefs and therefore more severe.

So when you see people warning against perennialism etc. - then have husn al-dhann for the warners that they're simply doing their job.

Hamza Yusuf has tried to clarify the words that some deemed to be racist within 24 hours.

It's great that scholars can make clarifications so swiftly. It proves that they DO know about public concerns.

But, Shaykh Hamza, what about 'The Study Quran'?

It's actually depressing that his fans are up in arms about the lesser issue of purported racism but haven't even mentioned the infinitely more important issue of iman and kufr.

When I think about the mountain of responsibility that burdens the shoulders of ulama, I am left nothing but petrified (for them).

The Quran talks about 'every man being a shepherd upon his flock' and 'saving those under you from hellfire' and the hadith tell us about Allah ta'ala questioning the sincerity of ulama on judgement day.

Then it is not unlikely that ulama will be asked about those whom they had influence over. E.g. an Imam of a masjid has influence over his congregation.

Isn't it a scary thought for ulama that they might be questioned about unfulfilled obligations? What if Allah ta'ala asks about a man in the congregation that adopted heresy but may not have if the scholar warned him against it? Who's responsible for this tragedy...?

Do our ulama ever wonder that there will be people amongst their congregation who will fall prey to people like Tahir ul, Hamza Yusuf, Hossein Nasr because they didn't stand and warn...?

Why don't we have ulama who fear the wrath of Allah ta'ala and thus fulfil the obligation of ordaining the good and forbidding the evil?

Do our ulama not think perennialism and considering all sects to be valid (sulh kullism) are misguidance? If they do, why don't they alert their flock of it?

Aren't ulama afraid of being blamed on judgement day by a member of their congregation that, 'O Allah! I was unaware because my imam never told me about Tahir ul and Hamza. O Allah! Don't punish me, punish him!'

Many ulama enjoy the status that being a scholar brings. The fame, the respect, the glory. But it's temporary. It is the afterlife that is eternal.

No one has a bigger responsibility than ulama. It seems many of them in our time have sworn not to refute heresy, thereby defeating the very purpose of their position.

The tragedy is, never mind refuting heretics and heresy, some of our ulama seem to be trying their utmost to promote the same!

Why are our teachers of tomorrow's ulama encouraging them to hobnob with heretics? Aren't they scared of standing before Allah?

Any institute teaching the sacred sciences must first teach Adab al-Ilm. Even before opening the first book, students must be taught the gigantic responsibility that they'll bear.

They HAVE TO be taught that kufr and innovation are their biggest enemy and they must do their utmost to quash them.

    Allah ta'ala guide us all.
