Dr Asim states at footnote 329 – ‘To a certain extent, this is as it should be: it behoves one to follow expert opinion. A surgeon in Ghana might similarly find herself referring to American journal articles and corresponding with British experts about a particular procedure. When one is discussing issues unique to one’s situation and environment, however, uncritical adherence to answers from afar can prove problematic’

Uncritical adherence to purported sightings in Nigeria and Ghana caused to be problematic. Please see Effendi Raja Zahid Nawaz’s critical analysis of these sightings which was posted on Sunniport earlier this month.

‘Hopefully it will help bring about a reassuring geographic unity for the Muslim communities. The wider public and government seek plain clear clarification on our legal guidance as a minority people under the ever increasing spotlight living in non-Muslim lands with leadership expectations upon the scholars to direct at both local and national levels’

Mevlana Aqdas it can also be said that Dr Asim should have consulted the like of Effendi Mufti Shems ul Huda before making the following inference about Imam Ahmad Rida Khan – ‘Nonetheless, he would by no stretch of the imagination have been considered one of the major astronomers of the time’

Dr Asim has said 'possible exception' so hasn't made any certain claim. Yes, he should've consulted those who study Alahazrat before writing that footnote.

Even hadith memorisers like Sayyid Wasiy Ahmad Surati would seek Alahazrat's help in hadith.

If people are measuring hadith knowledge by the number of volumes of commentaries authored - this would be unfair.

Alahazrat did those tasks which were beyond others. He would at times have 500 questions sent in a day. Where would he get time for extensive shuruh?

He even left writing a full tafsir because it would take too long.

    That's all.

Even then, there are dozens of works of his in hadith that show his mastery. No wonder scholars of Haramayn said: huwa Imam ul muhaddithin.

Yes, his tafaqquh outshone any of his other disciplines but that doesn't mean he wasn't expert in them too.

We hope Dr Asim will revise the footnote.

In regards to the Imam, Sayyidi Imam Ahmad Rida radhiyAllahu anhu wa arDah, he was a master scholar and muhaddith as testified to by the Ulama of the Haramayn and al-Azhar - giants such as Imam Habibullah al-Shinqiti, Imam Yusuf al Nabahani, and Imam Isma`il ibn Khalil al-Makki.

When the students of the grand Muhaddith, Shaykh Badr al-Din al Hasani endorse the books of Imam Ahmad Rida raDiyallahu `anhu, you know he raDiyallahu ` anhu must be a scholar of the highest caliber.

'He has received twenty years of rigorous theological training at the hands of leading scholars of Islamic law and spirituality. He has been granted ijazaat (formal authorizations) to instruct students in the art and science of Islamic thought by over thirty scholars from four continents, and has taught thousands of students across the country and overseas'
