I think this is actually a major problem- hypothetically, if a local masjid was to host an aqeedah course- how many people would turn up? Everyone thinks they know everything already. The best thing is to actually utilise the bayaan before the jumu'ah khutba to impart fard ayn knowledge such as aqeedah, fiqh of how to do wudu, etc. Same for the bayaan pre-taraweeh- people are already there so why not? Additionally, when people attend urs or mawlid gatherings- part of the day should be, let's say, a reading of aqeedah tahawiyya with some basic commentary- can literally do it within an hour.
I’m not entirely sure whether Twitter is the best place to argue and have these debates but I get your point. Suffice to see the tweets that come up on my feed and I’ve only been on there for a day or so (mainly to understand how it works as my son wants to be on social media..). I’m horrified to see supposedly learned brothers interacting with the opposite gender freely (likes, comments and QT)-shameful. I’ve been reliably told that you’re quite the event organiser yourself, so you could try organising such events instead of hosting Spaces with hours long of naat? Surely, basic Aqida teachings, or book readings would be more beneficial to a lot of users on there? Or maybe people prefer nice tunes?
The future batch of Ulema need to have some form of unity if our states are going to improve. Times are getting worse and this lack of unity cannot trickle down to the future generations. The graduates of Dawat-e-Islami, Shaykh Asrar's students, Mufti Monawwer Ateeq's students, Mufti Aslam's students etc... need to unite for the sake of the future generations. There are very talented individuals becoming scholars from the above and elsewhere and their talent shouldn't be wasted on petty issues or inter sunni politics. There are bigger tasks at hand.
I think more needs to be done in terms of teaching basic aqeedah in general. Vast majority of laymen don't know much of anything and make basic mistakes- this is the on the ground reality. There's a reason why questions like 'Is Allah everywhere?' get asked quite frequently. Not only this but certain subtleties in aqeedah are probably not grasped by many. For example, my understanding is fire does not burn- the fire is created by Allah and the burning is created by Allah and the cause and effect between fire and burning is only on the apparent and not a reality- they are separate. Essentially the principle of occasionalism. Whereas (correct me if I'm wrong), the mutazilah said that Allah creates within the fire an ability to burn (an object) and an ability to heal within medicine, etc. If you speak to the average layman, you'll see they believe the latter and not the former (occasionalism). (Please correct if my understanding of the above is not in line with sunni doctrine).
Let's take the 100 Urs e Alahazrat in Manchester Central Mosque as a template. 1. It doesn't need to be a one man army, it can be a team of people who can organise this just as how brother Aqdas and Co teamed up with Mufti Monawwar and Co for the 100th Urs. Where there is a will, there's a way insha'Allah 2. Don't invite controversial figures then. Everyone from the 100th Urs can come again (maybe one of them will kick up a fuss). We should get more of the younger scholars involved too such as Mawlana Mubeen Attari Mawlana Anis Mawlana Mubashir Iqbal Mawlana Hamdani Mawlana Uzair Tayyib Mawlana Shakir Misbahi Mawlana Shabaz Naqshbandi Mawlana Husnain Yaqoob Mawlana Naveed Sialvi etc etc
I think you have gone on a tangent. If this is not true, then why does your average Salafi know so much of the Salafi viewpoint on Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala yet Sunnis rarely know the Sunni viewpoint. Just go on Twitter, you'll see 50 Salafis ganging up on 2/3 Sunnis arguing about Allah being on a throne etc. Tangent again. It can be argued that everything in existence is a proof of Tawheed. What I'm talking about is to actively learn or spread knowledge about the dhat and sifaat of Allah Yes real Sunnis love Tawheed - but what percentage of lay-barelwis know about the dhat and sifaat of Allah? Our elders are totally ill-informed on this but I think the current English speaking scholars are now starting to make a difference by starting duroos on classical texts.
It’s a good proposition but realistically, 1. who will take it upon themselves to organise such an event - if you’re keen, you can always write to organisations. (Maybe start with Allamah Azmi Sahab, and get a feel for the response). 2. How could we ensure no bickering and people saying “I’m not going to be on stage with ___ insert archenemy’s name.” It shouldn’t have to be such a difficult task, but given that there’s no clear leadership nor unity amongst Ulama/molvis themselves…
It's true Ive had many neutral sunnis say to me "Deobandis are building Darul Ulooms all over the world and are teaching Bukhari weekly in their masajid, what are the Barelwis doing" and it is true, denying that it is a problem isn't going to help anything. Scholars and capable students of knowledge need to start teaching basic ashari/maturidi texts across the country, this would help the awaam immensely. The students of Shaylh Asrar have started teaching Hadith collections in Birmingham, this should be done across the country إن شاء الله
That is not true, and a misunderstanding spread by deviants, whabis/deos only talk about shirk and bidah in all of their gatherings, declaring their Muslim fellows as being polytheiests in the name of tawhid, they don't talk about the true tawhid, and in fact, they don't know it well. wahabies defend tajsim, and deobandies try to prove the possibility of deficiency in the Divine attributes, this is not tawhid but heresy. Whenever I attended some deobnadi gathering, I only heard about shirk and bifd'ah, they don't talk about the zaat and sifaat of Allah Ta'ala and His exaltedness from all the shortcomings, On the contrary, when alhussunah hold mawlids or talk about awliya kiram, it leads to tauheed eventually; because talking about the lofty ranks of the prophets alhimussalatu wasslam, their mu'jizaat, steadfastness of awliya kram on deen, their karamat these are all proofs of tawhid. You will not find any sunni who despises the zikr of Allah in gatherings, yet, you will find wahabis and deobandies who despise the zikr of RasulAllah alahi afDalus salatu wat tasleem, and awliya kiram. They think that denying the ranks of Prophet alaihi afDalus salatu wat tasleem or disrespecting awliya kiram is tawhid. You know from where they learned this sort of tawhid. Yes there is a lot of room for improvement, the format of our many gatherings should be changed, but it does not mean that sunnies don't love or talk about tawhid. tawhid is not just shouting shirk, bid'ah, and kufr.
Assalamu Alaikum all, First thread of mine (mods can move it to the right section if it is posted in the wrong section) I work in a sector where I am exposed to peoples of all faiths and muslims of a lot of factions Years ago, I was having a conversation after work with a layman who attends both barelwi and deo mosques in the vicinity - just whichever he feels like attending at the time (he comes to mawlids etc too) - and he said something alongs the lines of: barelwis have been holding milad and urs for 50 years but their mosques will never teach anything about Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala It got me thinking. IMO there is an element of truth in his thoughts So I propose: Let's hold a huge Barelwi (Sunni) Tawheed Conference (akin to 100th urs Alahazrat in Manchester) whereby one old-school scholar attends alongside a lot of young sunni english speaking scholars talking about the sunni aqeeda in regards to the dhat and sifat of Allah Subhananhu Wa Ta'ala It is with great regret that a lot of our Sunnis think aqeeda is only is only based on mawlid, hazir nazir, knowledge of the unseen, miraj, etc but cannot comprehend wahdat ul wujud, or Allah not being bound my time, or Allah not having limbs, things that are intrinsically impossible for Allah etc. Lots of lay-barelwis will call someone a deviant who doesn't kiss their thumbs during azaan but will not bat an eyelid when someone says Allah is everywhere. The divine attributes of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala needs to be spread amongst our awaam - we can even bring in the anthropomorphism of the najdis or Imkan al Kizb of the deos into the mix. Mawlana Asrar Mawlana Monawwar Mawlana Hussain Mawlana Kalim Mawlana Ibrar Mawlana Naveed Jamil Mawlana Shahid Mawlana Arshad Mawlana Ibrar etc etc Also bring the younger generation graduates to do speeches - Sunnis are meant to be a family right?
