I have also mentioned Syedina Imam al Busti al Shafi'i :ra: in the Persian Contribution thread,

Imam Syedina al Busti al Shafi'i :ra: is among the Greatest Shafi'i Scholars of Khurasan and Iran. Though he lived in the Hanafi part of Khurasan.

Bust is a district now in Afghanistan, and like the whole of Khurasan, was filled with Awliya Allah and entrenched in the Love of Rasulullah saws and the stronghold of Ahle Sunnah wal Jama'ah

Allah bless the Lovers of Rasulullah saws !!!!!!!!!!

ĥāfiž as-suyūTi writes in his ţabaqāt al- ĥuffāž (p.404):

al-khaţţābi al-imām al-állāmah al-mufīd al-muĥaddith ar-raĥĥāl abū sulaymān ĥamd ibn muĥammad ibn ibrāhīm ibn al-khaTTāb al-bustī. (the imām, the scholar of immense benefit, the muĥaddith, the traveler abū sulayman..)

author of many works. he narrates from abū saýīd ibn al al-a'árābī, abū bakr ibn dāsah and al-aśam. ĥākim narrates from him.

he has authored "sharĥ bukhārī", "máālim as-sunan", "gharīb al-ĥadīth", sharĥ asmā al-ĥusnā", "al-úzlah" among others.

he is a trustworthy [narrator], and an authority on sciences. he took his language sciences from abū úmar az-zāhid. and fiqh from qaffāl and ibn abū hurayrah. he is also mistakenly known as aĥmed.

his verse is brilliant. he passed away in bust in rabiý al-ākhir of the year 388.

    imām yāfiýi writes in mir'āt al-jinān (2/435,436):
"the great, knowledgeable, famous imām abū sulaymān al-khaţţābi ĥamd ibn muĥammad ibn ibrāhīm ibn al-khaţţāb al-bustī ash-shafiýī passed away in 388. [al-imām al-kabīr al-khabīr ash-shahīr]

he was a great jurist, literatteur, traditionalist [faqīhan, adīban, muĥaddithan]. he has excellent works to his credit among which are:

    • iýlām as-sunan,

      a sharĥ of bukhārī

      maáālim as-sunan,

      a sharĥ of abū dawūd

      gharīb al-ĥadīth

      iślāĥ ghalaţ al-muĥaddithīn

      kitāb bayān ad-duá, etc.

he heard (learnt from) abū álī aś-śaffār and abū jaáfar ar-razzāz in baghdād. ĥākim abū ábdAllāh an-nīsābūri, ábd al-GHaffār ibn muĥammad al-farisī, abū al-qāsim ábd al-Wahhāb and abū sahl al-khaţţābi have narrated from him (al-bustī).

    --
it is said that he resembled abū úbayd, al-qāsim ibn sallām in his time as regards to knowledge and scholarship, literary prowess, austerity, wariness, teaching and writing [ílman, wa adaban, wa zuhdan, wa war'án, wa tadrīsan wa tālīfan]

ĥākim says, ' i asked abū al-qāsim, mužaffar ibn ţāhir whether his (al-bustī) name was ĥamad or aĥmed. he replied: i heard him say: 'my name is ĥamd, but people erroneously write aĥmad, and i left them at that'."
