Absolutely... The hijazis and hadarim have always loved al-madinah al-munawwarah and inhabited the area, and yes you're right, the mu'adhins are from ahl as-sunnah usually. One mu'adhin from madinah came to Singapore, I think, to recite at a mawlid with the ba `alawis... The saudi authorities, apparently, banned the khatm of al-bukhari in madinah directly by the rawdah which the habaib practice, however -- according to a dear brother: Masha Allah... was-salam
true brother suleiman. however, i've heard they allow (always have allowed) the muedhdhineen of the haramayn to be sunnis from hijaz and even allow the yemenis, but the imams have to be from qassim in najd as bizarre as it is, sunnis do have some say, especially in some matters of the masjid nabawi, or else generally the hijaz and yemeni folk don't think the best of the authorities. it's not an easy job taking the love of tayyiba and it's traditions out of the hearts of the locals, considering they've been immersed in their love and traditions of respect and honor of the masjid an-nabawi for centuries.
