On surface, FIFA corruption arrests by US seem an all out (and barely disguised) attempt to scuttle Russian 2018 and Qatar 2022 world hosting rights. What has USA got to do with soccer anyway? For long European countries have brazenly adopted a racist campaign to deprive Qatar (and Blatter said it, as he saw it). But this one is for conspiracy theorists. It seems that timing of the latest arrests were driven by Israel which feared expulsion (at worst) and censure (at best) by FIFA board. See here.
