    ghawth al-a'azam raDiyallahu anhu in al-fat'H ar-rabbani, discourse 11.

[this is an adaptive translation for sake of clarity; not a literal one]

    ----
people! take counsel from the qur'an by acting upon it, not by fighting about it. belief entails a few easy words, but actions are plenty. it is obligatory upon you to have firm faith; believe and accept by your hearts, and [shew this acceptance] by actions performed by your external organs.

engage yourselves with things that are of benefit to you and do not heed minds that are defective, flawed, vile and contemptible.

[اشتغلوا بما ينفعكم لا تلتفتوا إلى عقول ناقصة دنيئة]

people! information that is narrated [al-manqūl] cannot be deduced or inferred by applying intellect. documentary evidence [al-naSS] cannot be rejected on the basis of analogy [al-qiyās]. one cannot abandon evidence and stand by mere claims.

[for example] the right to property cannot be established by mere claims without providing evidence, as the prophet SallAllahu alayhi wa sallam said: "if [rights] were taken from people on the basis of mere claims, then groups would claim life [lit:blood] and property of others. yet, the onus is upon the claimant and the right to denial belongs to the accused [innocent until proven guilty]."

there is no benefit in a knowledgeable tongue, with an ignorant heart.

لا ينفع لسان عليم وقلب جاهل

it is reported from nabiyy sallAllahu alayhi wa sallam that he said:
"the most i fear for my followers [ummah] is from a hypocrite with a knowledgeable tongue."

أخوف ما أخاف على أمتي من منافق عليم اللسان
    al-iyadhu billah wa nastaghfirullah.
