insha' Allah, i will be going to shaykh ya'qubi's 4-day shamayil at-tirmidhi event in birmingham.

    http://www.sunniport.com/masabih/showthread.php?t=3479

sidi shakil will confirm but i think there is a mawlid event where mawlana sa'eed as'ad and sayyid 'irfan shah mash'hadi will speak at the same event. nooru'n 'ala noor.

and if pir sayyid 'abdul qadir jilani's mawlid is not on the same day as the above, i will go to it too, insha' Allah.

    ---

this is my mawlid normally. hearing speeches about the messenger sallAllahu 'alaihi wasallam, his faDayil and khasayis and listening to na'ats.

obviously, it is a lie against ahlu's sunnah to say we restrict it to the 12th day only. the 12th day has gone and some major mawlid's in the UK are stil to happen.

we did a khatam of the the burda and the dala'il. we also spent the night discussing the khasai'is of our master Mustafa sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, and highlighting points from his sirah and sunnah, which we need to adopt in order to bring us out from the darkness in which we find ourselves. we recognised our state of utter helplessness, impoverishment, and our dire need for him sallallahu alayhi wa sallam in this life and the hereafter.

i ask Allah Ta'ala to fill our hearts with the love of sayyiduna Rasulullah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, grant us his ziyara, and enter us into the ranks of the highest awliya. No doubt this is easy for Allah Ta'ala.

Ala Hazrat would object to many many things that sunnis do nowadays; and if he did, the hot-headed amongst us wouldn't lose time in branding him wahabi.

I seriously dont understand why one cannot be a little bit cautious about the money being given. if you really want to give, you can give it later.

going and placing the money in someones hand is a different thing but I personally think that it is outright brassy and vulgar to go and shower the naat recitor with bills. I have never seen this myself except for the videos that I saw on the web

if it is to arrange for their arrival and expenses then i can understand that and give an excuse but if it is a general fact then that is really despicable.

I have to agree that the milad celebrations do have objectionable elements. An example is again in regard to na'ats, but more specifically the mahafil-e-na'at that are held. A lot of people treat these mahafil as a form of entertainment. There are certain elements of shari'a that are extremely important such as the beard for a man that are ignored by some of the special guest. Another thing I object is the way money is haphazardly showered upon the na'at-khwan. So much so that certain na'at khwan insist that they will not attend these programmes unless they were to recieve a certain amount of money. What an insult to the praise of the best of creation salalhu'alyhi wasalam. I have queried in another post as regards A'la Hadhrat 'alyhi rahmah said it was haraam for nazrana to be given. I am almost certain he would object to the way the money is showered nowadays and other points that need to be rectified.

    assalam`alaikum,

well said Br abu Hasan and I agree with what you have said.

that is very true and it is actually a business these days as you can find lots of low grade ( physically and otherwise ) casettes and CD's which have flooded the market with mistakes that none checks upon.

regarding the books to be read in milad sharif , in my own experience I have found the Shifa of Qadi Iyad to be a very beneficial book to read from, during the whole month of milad (or otherwise) and as you said the shamail is something that everyone loves and is a proven antidote to hardening of hearts.

seriously speaking and to be honest, i don't like the mawlids that are celebrated nowadays. i mean the way they celebrate it, not the mawlid itself - hasha lillah. when i was younger mawalid followed shariah rules and were supervised by men of taqwa and learning. nowadays, it is more of a wahabi-bashing affair. and there is some more. things that are objectionable and disapproved by learned men, are now becoming commonplace.

some apologists will jump at this opportunity and say, 'hah! we told you so. that is what our deobandi/wahabi/salafi/whathaveyoui scholars hold'. to them i say, the objectionable things in mawlids must be stopped and criticized; not the mawlid itself. nobody cuts off their head if they have a headache.

actually, it is the curtailing of remembrance of RasulAllah sallallahu `alayhi wa sallam that has caused the ummah to depart from shariah and fall into bid`ah. if they were constantly reminded, and exhorted to love the Prophet sallallahu `alayhi wa sallam they might not have forgotten the sunnah or neglected it.

    ---
among things to be avoided in a mawlid (or otherwise) are narration of events, stories and anecdotes which are baseless or fabrications. only reliable reports must be retold. recitation of na'at is fine, but only poems that are correct should be recited. many many na'ats contain mistakes because not all are penned by scholars. [that is why i restrict myself to na'ats by ala hazrat and minimally to certain other scholars.] young boys should not be allowed to recite na'ats. one should not hurt or trouble others - particularly neighbors - by their actions [like being noisy]. the best mawlid is when we emulate the prophet sallallahu `alayhi wa sallam by being kind, conceding, helpful and heedful of others' rights. other bleedingly obvious munkars to be avoided are mixed gatherings and meetings that turn out to be like picnics rather than a solemn occasion to remember RasulAllah sallallahu `alayhi wa sallam - who forbade us from vain and futile pursuits. remembrance and mention of RasulAllah Sallallahu `alayhi wa sallam is to rekindle the fire of love and obedience to him which is itself obedience to Allah.

we must resolve to be better men (or women), those mindful of RasulAllah's sallallahu `alayhi wa sallam teachings and sunnah.

    ---
i prefer to stay home on mawlid night and do tawba than attend majalis [everyone has their own way]. this is a night to ask forgiveness for one's sins and a night for repentance - we hope that our tawba has a better chance to be accepted on this blessed night.

those who can, must recite salawat - preferably dalayil al-khayrat. even shorter salawat will suffice for those who cannot attempt the longer ones. we should read or listen to the biography of the prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam - that is why booklets like 'mawlid al-barzanji' are written.

among other books to be read:
    shamayil al-muhammadiyyah
mukhtasar shu'ab al-iman by al-qazwini being the abridgement of imam bayhaqi's voluminous 'branches of faith'. [shaykh abd al-Hakim has translated this]
    arbayin an-nawawiyyah

one should recite qur'an as much as possible because reciting qur'an clears the rust on the hearts. one can do salat at-tasbiH, salat at-tawba and salat al-hajah. we must pray for all muslims - that were, that are and those shall be. we must pray Allah to ease the hardship of muslims wherever they are and to aid them in their needs. we must pray to be guided and ask Allah to grant us to drink al-kawthar from the blessed hands of Habib Sallallahu `alayhi wa sallam. we pray for our parents, our teachers, our friends, relatives and all muslim men and women, those alive and those passed away. we beseech Allah to grant us the shade of His beloved's mark on that day of reckoning; a day of unspeakable horror and intense apprehension. we seek the solace and comfort of being in the triumphant group of the Prince of succor and mercy for the universe. sallallahu `alayhi wa sallam:

ya ilahi jab paRey mahshar meiN shor e dar o geer
amn dene waley pyare peshwaa kaa saath ho!

ya akram al-khalqi ma li man aludhu bihi
    siwaka inda hululi'l hadithi'l `amimi

in my opinion, the prayer of ala hazrat must be recited as a prayer and not just as a poem. we ask Allah to grant us his beloved's intercession, and his intercession will certainly be accepted. may we enter the gardens of paradise, without being called to account, on account of the love of RasulAllah sallallahu `alayhi wa sallam. may Allah fill our hearts with his love. sallallahu `alayhi wa sallam

wallahu a`alam wa `ilmuhu atam. aameen aameen bi jaahi'n nabiyyi'l ameen. `alayhi afDalu's salatu wa atamm at-tasleem. wa `ala aalihi wa saHbihi wa ahli baytihi wa ahli ta`atihi wa Hizbihi ajma`een wa alayna ma`ahum ya Rabb al-`alamin.

    assalam`alaikum,

milad sharif is one time of the year when i excessively feel home-sick, writing about this is giving me an opportunity to remember all that I miss.

mawlid ash-sharif popularly known as milad-un-nabi or milad sharif is observed in hyderabad-deccan with great fervor and marked love and respect for the Habib of Allah , unlike in pakistan it does not have any major procession or juloos, the event in itself is celebrated across the whole week of the 12th of rabi-ul-awwal or the whole month at different places.

In the city there are atleast three major jalsas or congregations held where scholars and naat-khawns from home and abroad participate and address the gatherings and atlest two of them which are organized in the evening, run well beyond midnight. The largest one being the Jalsa Rahmatal lil`alameen at the Dar-us-Salam grounds. Then there are a flurry of other such events organized by various masaajid in different localities, there are mehfils of naat and natiya-mushaira's as well. the sufi khanqas have their own "rabi-ul-awwal ki fatiha" "rabi-ul-awwal ki mehfil" or the "rabi-ul-awwal ki niyaz" on various days mostly in the week of the 12th.

The largest mosque of the City from the QutubShahi era known as the Makkah Masjid has a Khutbah on the morning of the 12th - this khutbah is delivered by the Khateeb of the Makkah Masjid - presently Shaikh Abdullah Quraishi al-azhari who is also the Principal of the Jamia Nizamia Hyderabad, this Khutbah was commenced from the time of the Nizam after some of the scholars of the Jamia Nizamia visited the Haramain Shareefain and attended the Mawlid khutbah in the Haram of Mecca and wanted to have the same in Hyderabad.

After the khutbah, attended by the prominent schoalrs, people hug and greet reciting the durood-shareef as they meet each other.

However the distinguishing factor that makes Hyderabad special for me is that it has a treasure of the aasar-e-mubarak, the holy relics of rasul allah sallalhu `alaihi wa sallam; it is a highly interseting topic to talk of the history and asaneed of the aasar-e-mubarak present in Hyderabad, brought home largely due to the patronage of the Nizam and his close ties with the Ottoman khalifas and also by numerous sufiya ikraam.

The main masjid i.e the Makkah Masjid has the largest collection, which includes four strands of the blessed hair and the venerable cloak which seems brown in color or it has aged to seem that color and the matchless footprint in stone ; there are two places in the Masjid itself where the blessed relics are to be found one in the building right of the main hall and the other in the Khanqah-e-Sabiriyyah which is behind to the right of the main building.

it is few days in rabi-ul-awwal alone when these are open to public for ziyarah and each of these ziyarah's used to be the bloom and earnings of my milad day.

There are throngs of anxious lovers of the Habib of Allah waiting to catch a glimpse of the blessed relics. Standing in the que for the ziyarah in itself is an experience partly due to the magnitude of greatness of what you are going to witness and partly as you are ashamed of your sinful worthlessness

shauq rokey na ruke paaNw uthaaye na uthey
kaisi mushkil me hai allah tamannayi.e.dost

and it is this apprehensive anticipation that brings forth the gush of tears and you let it go and this leaves you overjoyed as if you have visited madinah itself.

And for the poor who find it diificult to make ends meet and cannot even imagine purchasing a plane ticket to go to medina, it is the closest that they can get to fulfilling the command of "jaa-uka" and it is a scene to watch as they pour their hearts out as the qasida burdah is recited alongside.

Prominent scholars make it a point to come for the ziyarah - and I have seen them rub their eyes on the glass container and kiss it as they view the blessed relics, and this brings joy and is a solace to the hearts of the commoners who are so rebuked by idiots for following the practice of the non-muslims and venerating inanimate objects !

And the whole month has such ziyaras scheduled in it particularly around the 9th to the 12th , and there is food served as well.

at one such ziyarah at a private place I saw an old gentelman with a flowing white beard standing by the blessed mu-e-mubarak ( the blessed hair ) greeting everyone young and old who came and giving them rose water that was used to wash the blessed container to drink. People were sitting reading the quran while others were just seated waiting to be fed, and this old shaikh stood for the whole time and when someone asked him to sit he said something to the effect of "my shaikh never sat and always stood in the presence of the holy relics, out of respect, so how can I sit and not stand and be disrespectful"

In my beautiful land Iran, the day Mawlid comes, people change as if the whole nation is in a grip of a collective conscious feeling

We the Ahl al Sunnah of Iran, no matter of which nation, on the 12th of Rabi' al Awwal light our homes, Masajids, our Majalis' our Bustans our Baghechas our Khanqahs our Maqams with beautiful lights.

We beautify our camels, horses and mules with beautiful traditional Farisi and Turkish embroidery and rally in the love of RasulAllah :sas:

Every province has its own taste. The Arabs of the south, the Baluch of the east, everyone...

In Iran we have huge joint families, sometimes entire villages and they greet each other on this day and gather for major Zikr Majalis' and da'wahs with lots of delicious home food cooked in mass by our women in huge cooking pots on with a large amount of wood gathered on open grounds

we cook rice dishes and invite all the poor as well to join in the feast

A HaDra in the Love of RasulAllah :sas: is done by the Murideyeen of the Qadeyri Tariqat

thousands of men join hand in hand in the HaDra, which is also joined in silence by thousands of others who come from far away places, our mountains vibrate with this massive collective sound of Zikr of Allah and His Habeeb :sas: on the day of the 12th and Monday of the blessed month

it seems as if Nur is ascending from the mountains where the Zikr happens

thousands of our brothers join us from 'Iraq, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Chechnya, Afghanistan, Baluchistan in Pakistan and Turkmenistan

Qadeyri Munshideen come especially from Chechnya to enrich our hearts

Zakireen recite Qasidas all throughout the blessed month of Rabi' ul Awwal day and night in the numerous Zawiyahs we have all over the country

The Shaheed 'Ali Ishaq Sadiqi al Qadiri and others who have given their lives for the love of RasulAllah :sas: recently are remembered and their maqams visited.
