you think? i just though it's a bad way of compiling an yearly almanac of sorts. it's a good idea to know about the, forgive me, "rijaal" in the world of Islam! i remember the manorama year book we used in school days for quick reference on GK - https://archive.org/details/cftri.0166manoramayearbook0000mamm/page/666/mode/1up - something of that sort if someone has the time and resources, it would be good for a Sunni to come up with a proper almanac of all the movers, and shakers, and their circle of influences - for political purposes - and also list their theological persuasions; plus activities in the world of Islam i agree with you, in this list it's nothing but buttering up or political correctness or appeasement towards all the 500 personalities - but imagine if it had, in our modern day context, some actual and practical jarh and ta3deel!
even if they had only sunnis in the list, it would still be bid'ah sayyia'h - imho as it reinforces hero-worship, groupism, cultism and assorted ills and incentivises charlatanism for the fame and power-hungry. it's just dunyawi signalling of some sort. see in-group/out-group psychology.
