i have read in bahar e shariat that if clothes become old and torn, it is sunnah to mend them and wear, instead of throwing them away.

    Allah ta'ala knows best.

The venerable daughter of Hadhrat Umar (raDiyAllaahu 'anhu), Hadhrat Hafsa (raDiyAllaahu 'anha), who was one of the Mothers of the Believers, once asked her father, "O respected father! The general condition nowadays has improved significantly compared to the past. Will it be permissible to increase our standard of living ? "

Hadhrat Umar (raDiyAllaahu 'anhu) said that he would allow her to give an answer to her own question. Thereafter he spoke regarding the lifestyle of Nabi (sallAllaahu alaihi wasallam) and he constantly asked her how her life with Nabi (sallAIIaahu alaihi wasallam) had been conducted. He repeated this so much that Hadhrat Hafsa (raDiyAllaahu 'anha) began crying.

Then he said, "My two companions before me (Nabi sallAllaahu alaihi wasallam and Hadhrat Abu Bakr raDiyAllaahu 'anhu) had traversed through life in a particular pattern and way. I take an oath in the Name of Allaah Ta'ala that I will follow in their footsteps and adopt such a forbearing and patient lifestyle, so that in the hereafter I may be able to attain a beautiful and peaceful abode. "

Hadhrat Ali (raDiyAllaahu 'anhu) once said to Hadhrat Umar (raDiyAllaahu 'anhu), "If you desire to meet with your two companions (Nabi - sallAIIaahu alaihi wasallam - and Hadhrat Abu Bakr - radhiAllaahu anhu), then you Will wear patches on your Kurtas and shoes, your desires will be little and you will be satisfied such that you will not eat (excessively).

Hadhrat Abu Uthmaan Mahdi (rahmatullahi alaih) states: "l saw Hadhrat Umar (raDiyAllaahu 'anhu) giving a sermon whist standing upon the Mimbar in the condition that he had upto 12 patches on his cloak."

what did you read - the text or the audio? and in which book?

the audio is entirely different from the text and it quotes Imam Ghazzali and Imam Shafi (raHimahumullah). The text part we keep hearing in khutbas but the audio part is more informative which is why I uploaded it here.

whichever it is, neither the text nor the audio are mine and it is the respective person's responsibility to acknowledge the original source of his work.

    wassalaam.

I'm pretty sure I read this in a Dawat-e-Islami book.

A short explanation of the following hadith in urdu:

'Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) states the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said, ''Aisha if you desire to meet me then from the worldly things stop at what you have, the amount that a traveller has when travelling. Save yourself from sitting with the rich and do not think of your clothing as old until patched.'

It is the Sunnah to wear patched clothing. Unfortunately if clothing becomes ripped then people throw it away. However, when the fashion of wearing ripped and patched jeans is out, people want to get them and follow the fashion. The heart hurts to see the Muslims following the latest trend but when it is the Sunnah, we feel ashamed of following the beautiful Sunnah. Do we see any non-Muslim following the Sunnah' What face will we show to Allah (The Exalted) on the day of Judgement and to His beloved Messenger (may Allah bless him and grant him peace). We will say that yes we loved you but followed others, Allah (The Exalted) forbid, O Allah! Give us the ability to follow the beautiful Sunnah of Your beloved and give us a place with him in the hereafter, Ameen.
