Mufti Muneeb ur Rahman is correct on both accounts: 1. A deviant sayyid will not be respected as a Sunni sayyid would be 2. Anyone who elevates Mawla Ali above Shaykhayn is outside Ahl al-Sunnah If a non-Sunni sayyid is to be honoured the same as a Sunni sayyid, why did ulama declare it makruh tahrimi to pray behind him? Those fatawa that mention respect for a non-Sunni sayyid despite his minor innovations mean: He won't be disrespected as a non-sayyid deviant would. But it doesn't mean that he will be treated like a Sunni sayyid, e.g. kissing his hands and making him a religious guide, etc. People have misapplied fatwas.
