    YUSUFALI: But only the desire to seek for the Countenance of their Lord Most High;
    PICKTHAL: Except as seeking (to fulfil) the purpose of his Lord Most High.
    SHAKIR: Except the seeking of the pleasure of his Lord, the Most High.

    assalm`alaikum,

    well its not clear as to who is addressed - thinking aloud - if it were referring to Allah azza wa jall then would one violate the ash`ari or the maturidi aqeeda if one understood wajh to mean - essence ?

    wa alaykum as salaam.

    how valid is it to call Allah sub'Hanahu wa ta'ala "Wajhu'n Nur". pardon my ignorance, but isn't that supposed to contradict the ash`ari doctrine? [for that matter maturidi as well?]

    maybe i am being hasty: it first remains to be clarified as to who is being addressed by the name, 'face of light'; shaykh ya`aqubi or his Creator?

    wAllahu a`alam wa `ilmuhu atam.
