I fear for Somalia. I do not want its Muslim population to be massacred (the 'adhab of Allah ta'ala) the same way as Algeria, Chechnya. I will not include Afghanistan, even though it is in quite similar situations; it is because Afghanistan did not see the destruction of the Maqam of Awliya Allah ta'ala. Tasawwuf and Sufism is all over Afghanistan. The country is still the land of Sufis. An Afghani Qadiri Murid, a Tajik, explained to me the reasons behind what happened in Afghanistan. But clearly the situation there is not as bad as that in Algeria, Somalia, Chechnya, Iraq, where there is total chaos.
Afterall, they are the pirates looting ships. Who says the shabab are not involved. Most of these shabab will be soon on overcrowded boats trying to flee to yemen or crossing over the border at night trying to flee to Kenya or applying for education to salafi schools in Saudi Arabia, not because of revenge seeking opponent somalis, but purely for economic reasons. These are economic/power opportunists. Not most of the refugees in North America or Europe, though attitudes are now changing. This is what exactly happened in Algeria. The Salafis there destroyed the Maqam of AwliyaAllah. And you know what happened to them and their supporters. They were brutally massacred, men, women and children, babies, entire villages. Killed by Muslim hands. The govt seculars killed them mostly but also the salafis themselves. Total confusion and chaos. This is what has been happening in Somalia for the past decade. Frustrated, position seeking, tribal, racist, revenge seeking youth started becoming easy target for opportunists coming back from Saudi. I would like to point to an incident that started all of this. Everyone knows about Black Hawk Down. The Americans killed 40,000 Somalis to save a 100 Americans. These young Somalis like the ones in Iraq then became easy target of the salafis opportunists coming from saudi to fight the americans. This is what exactly happened in Iraq. They starting destroying the graves of Awliya from the North to Baghdad. They even blew up the mausoleums inside Saddam's family graveyard and elsewhere because it was haram to build such things. They wanted to blow the Maqam of Imam Abu Hanifa radyAllahu anhu. Attacked the Maqam of Ghawth al-'Adham with a bomb. Look what happened to them and their families. Brutal killing by the Americans and the rafiDis. Entire Sunni populations who have adopted salafism, and sided with salafis destroyed and wiped out. Infact, the salafis in Iraq started killing the sunnis themselves who had adopted them. They started also killing eachother with bombs. Total chaos, and confusion. Entire Sunni neighbourhoods destroyed, empty. CHAOS. I can go on and on with examples. For further proof, I would like you to contrast to two astonishing miracles. The first miracle is that the country right next to Algeria is totally sufi, with no killing at all, but instead smiling people contended in the heart, people who are so peaceful that you cannot even imagine that they would be capable of killing even a fly. The other miracle is that of Ethiopia, whose Muslim majority, Shafi'i and Sufi, is the total opposite of its immediate neighbour Somalia, just as Morocco is to Algeria. No mental people in Ethiopia. Sufis flourishing there. Ahl al-Sunnah scholarship flourishing there. People far far more diverse in Ethiopia are living in total peace, contenment, no confusion, no chaos. It is astonishing. Somalia where only Somali clans live is the total opposite.
