It would be interesting to know which ip addresses voted on multiple occasions. I suspect a lot of nay voters (as well as some aye voters, possibly alarmed by sudden spike in nay votes as I predicted) were cast by same handful of people.

Do you have stats by unique ip addresses (than by number of polled votes)?

without further ado: sunniport will continue and shall be upgraded, in-sha'Allah.

    ---
when i started the poll, i was under the impression that a few regulars would vote to keep the forum and if they wanted it, we would upgrade. we didn't think of closing it abruptly, in any case. as you know, this was after a minor disruption. naturally, if not many were using it, we didn't see the need to bother about it - but we were mistaken.

i was indeed surprised at the response; some of you wrote in private mail urging us to continue - thank you for your support and kind words.

with such encouragement, it would be a shame if we left it without any improvement. we shall, in-sha'Allah in the coming weeks, upgrade the forum and try to give it a facelift.

    ---
the poll will be incomplete without analysis of results; here we go:

    certainly yes; we need it ---------------- 705 ------- 39.72%
this is the only response we really care about and as i said in my initial post, even 10 users would be good enough for us to upgrade. many might have voted due to canvassing by some brothers, but we have seen that apart from guest voters, we have 24 registered voters who voted for the forum to stay.

good if lives; don't mind if it goes ----- 6--------- 0.34%
six voters (and one registered user) thinks it is good if it lives. we take it as a yes.

    don't care-not relevant anymore---------- 842 ------- 47.44%
this is an interesting answer. two registered voters don't care - and the rest are guest voters.

if you look at it in perspective, this is an invalid vote. whether one person spammed the vote or 842 genuine persons voted for it, the outcome of this is that they don't care. so we shall upgrade, and 'they will not care.'

but if it has lost relevance, why vote at all? come on you wasted your vote and time - if i didn't care for something i wouldn't bother about it. so we will discount this vote - after all, they don't care.

do you take donations for closing it ----- 222 ------- 12.51%
only one registered voter voted for this one - and that was me. i wasted my vote with this one. and there are potentially 705 people against me (i mean those who voted 'yes' to keep the forum).

as for the rest of the guest voters who want us to close, we now know that there are at least 222 people whom we have caused discomfort. most likely deobandis and shiah or disgruntled sunnis. seriously, did you think we would close because 222 people don't like us? we never said that popularity was one of the objectives of this forum; nor have we shied from airing what we think is the right view, just because it is unpopular.

    ----
if you had read my opening post, i had made clear that answers were formed in the manner to stem spam - perhaps people don't read or if they do, they don't think about consequences.

    wa billahi't tawfiq.
