Since this is the topic also on Imam Mehdi :as:

I know of institutions in my country Iran, doing research on him :as: all the time, especially on the predictions of his appearance...

one of my good friends, who is also an Iranian Sunni, studied in one of these institutions (while he was a shi'a)

anyone looking for details, please pm me

Another thing, the above reminds me of the rain that happened a few weeks ago, not the one above that is predicted to happen

This Winter term, it has rained so much all over Iran, and Afghanistan and Pakistan, the likes of which we Iranians have never seen for more than half a century (perhaps more)

so much torrential rain the whole winter term, that dams burst, flooding has killed thousands

in Pakistan the official figure is 2000 killed, local figure is much higher, while mine is even higher..

perhaps this is a sign of more rain to come soon?

    flooding landslides

are not shi'a sources all lies and totally untrustable?

I come from a shi'a country and I know they are all big time liars!!

why would a Sunni want to research shi'a sources to gain whatever predictions he wants

I don't know but what is "kazakhistan"? isn't it supposed to be "kazakhstan"?

Do Maghribi Malikis speak Persian? Because I can only expect Indians to say names like that

Sidi Abu Nibras this was really interesting stuff, jazak Allah khayr

I really enjoyed reading it (something to stimulate my emotions )

why is there the word "powerful" in the translation of the basmalah?

    assalam`alaikum,

it is not supposed to "mean" anything - if i would have wanted to ring an alarm i would have posted this before safar.

As you may know there have been numerous such prophecies in the past - some by scholars and some by the non-scholars.

The Shaykh above talks of "rare" ahadith and ties them into his "rareer" geographical/cosmological understanding of things.

I just thought that this was interesting and even if it were a cheap hoax it is still a warning for me, further it gives us the chance to explore the classical opinions.

My point is that one should talk of the end of times and keep remindinding onself albeit the method above may not be the best of ways.

Without any first hand knowledge : ( all internetish ) - he seems to be popular with the Malikis in the west

followup: i read it once more. i think someone needs help; the whole thing is a hodgepodge looks like a gaddafi turned sufi with salafi airs.

don't read books of fiqh or follow scholars nor ask 'fatwa' - after all he dislikes the word 'fatwa'. read his little green book of songs and all will be well. you will be greater mujtahid than albani himself. the great scholar abu-who is hidden. he is vagabond. he may one day decide to do away with the site. the correctness of the information on the site is not guaranteed. and the moon is made of debris in safar on the banks of river syria coming down from mount lebanon...

the chain letter of one shaykh ahmed in medina was more coherent than this haiku.

    ----
the guide book is very long and seemed not too bad, but i was mildly surprised for an entirely different reason. some time ago, i had started compiling a book on basic hanafi fiqh and i thought that it was a good idea to add rules in rhyme - as they usually do in arabic/persian books. it seemed exciting at first, but i soon discovered that it easier said than done!

    to wit:

    the farDs of wuDu
farD of wuDu let us explore
    wash your face and arms, fore;
wipe your head and what is more -
wash your feet and that makes four.

...and what is that supposed to mean?

i read all the three links and some more, albeit in haste.

in my paranoid opinion, that site is a set-up thingy either by the ministry of truth or by some clever fraudsters or even doomsday-panickers... the style is quiet alien to islamic scholarship. books on the last times, mahdi etc do not go that way.

i don't know any muslim who has translated the basmalah as: "In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Powerful". one can argue that it is "Bismillahi'r RaHmani'l Qadir". but that would be just a rationalization.

on the other hand, i might be completely wrong and it must be a site by some concerned muslim. regardless, the contents are wide off the mark.

    ----
there are two definitive books on the subject that i can recommend:

    1) an-nihayah fi'l fitani wa'l malahim - actually the last part of al-bidayah wa'n nihayah by hafiz ibn kathir and
    2) al-isha`ah li ashrati's sa`ah by shaykh muhammad ibn `abd ar-rasul al-barzanji al-Husayni

there are also a few monographs by suyuti among other reliable sources.

    Allah knows best.
