It is mentioned in Tarikh al-Dimishq of Ibn `Asakir as well as by Imam Khatib al-Baghdadi in his Tarikh and both places it is mentioned that the rijal are thiqat and the riwayat is mutassil and in another place that the rijal are hasan and thiqat except one narrator is saduq. (Kitab al-Da`wat, Abwab al-Manaqib, Jami` al-Tirmidhi). Imam al-Tirmidhi writes : قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى : هَذَا غَرِيبٌ. Imam Ibn Sa`ad in his Tabaqat al-Kubra (1:183,201) , Imam Ibn Asakir in his Tarikh al-Dimishq (3:266-2677), Imam Ibn Hibban in his Sahih, the Shama`il of Imam Tirmidhi, and many other books narrate this hadith as well. I heard from Abd Allah ibn Yusuf from Malik from Yahya ibn Sa`id who said I heard Abu Hubab Sa`id ib Yassar who said I heard Sayyidina Abu Hurayrah radhiallahu anhu that the Messenger of Allah sal Allahu alayhi wa salam say “I have been commanded (to migrate) to a town (Madina) which would overpower other towns. They (the people) call it Yathrib while correct name is (in fact) Madina. It eliminates (bad) people just as a furnace removes the alloy of iron” and a similar narration has been mentioned in Sahih Muslim as well as in Sunan al-Kubra of Imam al-Nasa`i, Mushkil al-Athar of Imam al-Tahawi, Dala`il al-Nabuwwah of Imam al-Bayhaqi, as well as Uyun al-Athar of Ibn Sayyid al-Nass. A Small Sparkle from the Ode of Light (Taken from the Sharh of Qasida al-Nur) Author: Imam Ahmad Raza Khan Barelwi rahmatullahi alayh Introduction and footnotes by Mufti Faiz Ahmad Uwaysi al-Ridawi Introduction and footnotes translated by Muzammil Yousuf Introduction: All praise is due to Allah and praise and blessings be upon His Messenger upon Him be salutations and blessings In continuation: This is the fourth risala of Faqir al-Uwaysi, may Allah ta`ala forgive him. Prior to that was the publication of “Kar Amad Mas`ala”. But praise be to Allah, this faqir has written a lengthy (zakhim) commentary of Qasida al-Nur in volume 17 of Hada`iq al-Bakhsish and it is hoped it will be popular even prior to it’s release. But this commentary upon the Qasidat un Nur (the Ode of Light) of Faqir Uwaysi is being published for the sake of blessing. It is for this reason that Faqir Uwaysi has put some extra time into the commentary/footnotes of Qasida al-Nur (the Ode of Light) in order that it be proven to be beneficial. Introduction: The Master of the Worlds (Upon him be peace and blessings) is light and there are many proofs for this. I will present two of these proofs. Hazrat Abdullah ibn Masud may Allah be pleased with him said (and in some narrations Hazrat Jabir ibn Abdullah may Allah be pleased with him) said that the Prophet Muhammad upon him be salutations and blessing said that Jibril upon him be peace said to the Blessed Prophet upon him be peace and blessings that Allah the Exalted said: عَنْ جَابِرٍ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ , صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ , قَالَ : " هَبَطَ عَلَيَّ جِبْرِيلُ , عَلَيْهِ السَّلامُ ، فَقَالَ : يَا مُحَمَّدُ , إِنَّ اللَّهَ , عَزَّ وَجَلَّ , يَقْرَأُ عَلَيْكَ السَّلامَ , وَيَقُولُ : حَسْبِي أَنِّي كَسَوْتُ حُسْنَ يُوسُفَ مِنْ نُورِ الْكُرْسِيِّ ، وَكَسَوْتُ حُسْنَ وَجْهِكَ مِنْ نُورِ عَرْشِي ، وَمَا خَلَقْتُ خَلْقًا أَحْسَنَ مِنْكَ يَا مُحَمَّدُ “I made the light of the beauty of Yusuf peace be upon him from the Throne and I enlightened your blessed Face from the Light of the Divine Court”[1] Hazrat Abu Hurayrah radhiallahu taala anhu said: عَنْ أَبِي يُونُسَ مَوْلَى أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ , أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ , يَقُولُ : " مَا رَأَيْتُ شَيْئًا أَحْسَنَ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، كَأَنَّ الشَّمْسَ تَجْرِي فِي وَجْهِهِ ، وَمَا رَأَيْتُ أَحَدًا فِي مَشْيِهِ مِنَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، كَأَنَّ الأَرْضَ تُطْوَى لَهُ ، إِنَّا لَنَجْتَهِدُ ، وَإِنَّهُ لَغَيْرُ مُكْتَرِثٍ صَلَوَاتُ اللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ تَسْلِيمًا " .[2] I have never seen anything more beautiful than Our Beloved Messenger, upon him be salutation and blessings. His face was light like the shining sun. Another proof of His being an Enlightened Being (noori bashar), upon him be salutations and blessing, is the fact from His blessed body, upon Him be peace and blessings, came a fragrance more beautiful than musk and thus all the Companions used to say that “When I used to shake the hand or embrace the Messenger of Allah upon him be peace and blessings, I would notice a fragrance more beautiful than qustur (a type of fragrance) ”.
