Jzk for this bro Aqdas......this is perfect! In fact, this point was excellently clarified in a programme last week on Ummah Channel, by the panel which included Sayyid Irfan Shah Mashhadi Sahib and Allama Misbahi Sahib.
makka is umm al-qura, and since sayyidina rasulAllah sallAllahu 'alaihi wasallam was born there, he is ummi. it also means not taught by any man. someone has transcribed shaykh pirzada's speech on the topic here.
Can anyone please advise me what the correct translation of the arabic word 'ummiy' would be in English? (..as in when referring to RasulAllah salallahu alaihi wasallam as the ummiy Prophet) I know I have seen an article on this site (or perhaps it was another Sunni site), but cannot trace it and it gave an indepth analysis of the word in relation to RasulAllah salallahu alaihi wasallam. JazakAllah
