Reciting this couplet in one's last moments WHILE beholding the Prophet ﷺ seems more impactful. Kay this is that very short but crucial moment which determines my eternity, when my soul is being separated from my body and بحمد لله through unflinching wafādārī to the dar of Rasūlullah ﷺ I am successfully *leaving* this world.... and he departs with a most satisfied pleasant smile.
the tone of the couplet is looking back after having left. or if you wish to make the second line as a prayer: praise be to Allah - i will leave this world as a muslim. --- but the certainty of having left a muslim, and the satisfaction of that achievement BECAUSE of believing in him is lost if you do not translate it as "left".
