"A Faqih is one person, but he is heavier over a thousand. However the question that we ask is that, where do we find such Fuqaha (grand Jurists) like the Fuqaha of the past? The Fuqaha are leaving this world one after the other and the levels of education in the Science of Fiqh is diminishing. Nowadays, education is only left by name in most of the Madrassahs (Islamic Seminaries)."

Bhai, i wrote a whole work around shaykh shahid ali & shaykh asrar rashid (that i later retracted because of disagreeing with both) but when there is khatrah to the jama'at of ahl al-sunna and daruriyat ahl al-sunna and daruriyat al-din

we must put things to the side and support each other

This. We've got Iran at a major Sunni organisation and people are worried about Shahid. And most likely it's people who've done nothing about Iran.
  4. AbdalQadir

AbdalQadir time to move along! will check pm's.

    they have.

let alone the times of the salaf, we're not even in 1977 when it would just be a morning cuppa for Huzoor Mufti Azam Hind rahimahullah to openly lash out at indira gandhi (during national emergency (link) when her ruthlessness was at its peak) or any other deviant, without batting an eyelid

i'm still annoyed at Darul Uloom Amjadiya (Karachi) for not speaking up against tahirul after his wembley event due to any real or manufactured maslaha. i begged and pleaded and if not mistaken did send them istifta too.

so in times like this, what Shahid Ali has done against deviants is certainly commendable. no doubt about it.

    it doesn't but, see above

and this is certainly not the time to criticize him.

however, if he's on a shooting spree in all directions and labeling Sunnis as sulah kulli, he should be called out on those matters.

plus he (Shahid Ali) should himself be careful and cautious. our enemies can try to upend his good work by saying 'you're just a boy crying wolf! you haven't even spared the Barelwi Asrar Rashid! anyone other than you is a deviant' - that will damage his credibility and hurt the hard work he's done.

if he can stand together in protest with those two devbandi bozos against that shia movie (i think it was called 'lady of heaven' or something) - while maintaining that on this particular point, of protesting against that downtrodden shia movie, they have a common motive of defending Sahaba and Ummahatul Mumineen radi Allahu 3anhum ajma3een - he certainly can find more common motives with Asrar Rashid

    Allah knows best.

I laughed out loud reading this. Have you read any of his ‘books’. Let’s take the translation he did (just analysis of the Sunni Deobandi dispute). It’s unreadable due to the amount of mistakes in it. An utter disgrace.

Do point me do these articles he wrote. Are these academic articles? Where have they been published? You can post the abstracts here.

As for whatever you have mentioned (protests, writing up joint statements), you’re kidding right? Does it really require a dars e nizami degree and 6 months Mufti crash course to do these?

Ulama will discuss his scholarly calibre but he is admirable for being at the forefront of the Tahir ul statement, Yaqubi statement and ان شاء الله, getting Iran the boot.

If ulama remain silent on these matters, bidah spreads.

Let's say there are great scholars in the UK, they didn't do much about Yaqubi or Iran.

Then his translations and teaching dars e nizami and those videos against devs.

No upright ulama of the UK go to Tahir ul or Yaqubi any more. They abstain. This is an achievement.

I don't know how to reply to Muhammad Husnain directly but 1) Shahid Ali didn't write 6 books. Out of those 6 books, he wrote 1. He translated the other 5 from the Urdu language. 2) Completing Darse-e-Nizami is not an great accomplishment nowadays. 3) He graduated and 1 year after he became a Mufti. You can check the timelines yourself. I'm no scholar but how does one become a Mufti within a year? 4) Refuting TQ or Shaykh Yaqubi حفظه الله is not really an achievement. Getting a film removed is not a scholarly feat, neither is getting a fatwa on Irfan Shah.

Does this warrant the title 'Mufti of Islam' as given to him by Mufti Aslam Bandyalwi? This is NOT an attack on Shahid Ali, just a reply to Husnain. I'm sure Shahid Ali has a lot more to offer but these things mentioned above do not constitute an Alim or Mufti unfortunately. Either I've forgotten the definition of a scholar or our standards have slipped drastically.

    Mufti Shahid has:

Refuted tahir ul qadri wrote up joint statement

Worked on letter to shaykh Yaqoubi

Wrote 6 books so far in English:

1 Reflection upon Ameer Mu'awiya radyAllahu anh
2 Superiority of Sayyiduna Abu Bakr radyAllahu anh
    3 death of the queen
    4 reality of lineage
5 just analysis of Sunni Deobandi dispute
    6 book of beliefs

    Teaches dars nizami

Has written a few articles too

Successfully protested and got lady of heaven film removed and exposed its director on sky news

Got the Bareilly fatwa on Irfan Shah and now even whilst being in jti done a protest to remove Irfan and was also the first to even make a move on Irfan while most were silent

Done a series of videos silencing the Deobandis after shaykh asrar rashid soight his help

Could add more but I think that's enough for now

Since when is Moulana Shahid Ali the benchmark for sunni scholarship? As far as I am aware, very few of his own peers rate him.
Apart from the Irfan Shah Mashhadi issue, can you please mention which significant impactful work he has done since graduating? As for him being conferred the title of Mufti, can you detail some of his ijtihad and recent fatwas?

perhaps i learned more about him and decided that i do not wish to call him 'mawlana'. is it wajib to address every dars nizami graduate as 'mawlana'?
besides, i am a nobody; my calling him mawlana or not is inconsequential.

his teacher mufti aslam sahib has showered titles on him which i think is more valuable for him than an anonymous person on the internet calling him shaykh mawlana mufti shahid ali. he has issued a warning in public interest in the past to keep away from me.

@abu Hasan can talk for himself; but you're being pedantic over a non-issue. in fact abu Hasan called out Asrar Rashid for a telegram post regarding indhar for a Muslim brother digging a well for his Muslim brother to fall in - and directly asked if this was a dig at Shahid Ali (and an old scuffle between him and Asrar)

i say brother Shahid Ali or brother Asrar Rashid for both of them, as well as Shahid Ali or Asrar Rashid, as well as shaykh - you can make your case against me too

i agree full well that our elders have stated that even old people (who are very revered in Islam) should respect a scholar even if he is a youth. fiqh books are replete with it

however, calling someone by name or kuniyah is not disrespectful. it's only a desi disease that we need to add a Shaykhe Tariqat Hujjatul Islam Fazile Zaman ... after every person's name who has come out of a seminary, even if he hasn't delivered the amanah of his knowledge or could be least bothered to (ironically for me, both Shahid Ali and Asrar Rashid have done excellent work at the grassroots level, so they both don't fall under the accusation of not delivering amanah of knowledge - but my point stands)

    1) it's also counter productive to add 30 lbs of titles to people who don't deserve them, as is the habit of us desis; and this is why we're in the mess we are in - anyone who only talks and propagates elementary kindergarten level aqidah or fiqh (if that) in uselessly fiery speeches glittered with rock concert style naatkhwanis and lavish meals is at once raised to the level of Ghausul Waqt

we need to go in the opposite direction of that to negate the effect of this disease. sometimes such actions are necessary to negate some evil/malpractice (or even a misapplied mustahab) when its tentacles have spread as far as they have in our modern peer industry (i'm not even gonna call it culture now)

    2) besides, it is also a common practice to say just the names of ulama significantly higher and mightier than Shahid Ali and his own teachers, in discourse where a larger point is being addressed, and their super-valuable opinions are needed

    As-Shafi3iy said ...
    Ahmad bin Hanbal said ...
    Al-Ghazali did ...
    An-Nawawi didn't ...
Ibn Abidin ruled it to ...

    not at all.

for example see my recent posts supporting him wholeheartedly and pleading for others like Monawwar Ateeq or Asrar Rashid et al to join him in his noble cause.

in deeds moreso than in empty, useless, daqianoosi desi rhetoric! sorry for ranting :)

Abu Hasan I recall how you would say 'mawlana Shahid' when he was on good terms with Shaykh Asrar but suddenly he became Shahid Ali after differing with him?

With all due respect he has studied traditional dars nizami texts over a decade. It says in hadith that one must treat each person according to their level.

People referring to him as just 'shahid ali' is counter productive to the cause he is standing for and just puts him down as though he's just a random layman. This clearly ain't right.

It takes away the importance and seriousness of the stance he took and work he does against Irfan Shah. He has studied ifta and should be addressed accordingly don't you think?
