This is an intriguing article. what caught my eye was the name " turki binali ", a bahraini. Turki bin Ali, is from the Khaleeji BinAli tribe. A small one in Bahrain. By face he looks like someone from Isa Town. I find it interesting to see that the dictatorships in the Middle East have had their salafi side-kicks for decades. 1. Ba'ath with Salafi badris 2. Aal Khaleefas with Bin Ali salafis 3. Gaddafi with Sirte Salafis [ gaddafi's son declared he was a salafi ] But i do not believe these badris, bin alis, and Sirte gaddafi loyalists were really into religion etc. i dont think they come from poor backgrounds either. certainly not Turki BinAli; and bin ali is an ultra rich tribe in bahrain and qatar. it does not add up when u see salafis in Bahrain, who primarily come from poorer sunni neighbourhoods. it also seems he is of mixed background. if the badri clan is spread from salahuddin contiguously across diyala, waset to Missan, most likely it had immense favours [ land grants ] given by the saddamists. This was a campaign to settle saddam loyalist "sunnis" across south iraq. i do not buy that the bin alis or the badris were a religious group. they were dunya hoarding saddams or aal khaleefas
This may be of interest to Wadood. I didn't know where to post it. Was thinking of naming a new thread 'Anthropology'. The recent post on Syria Comment is about ISIS leader Baghdadi and a look at his extended family. Includes mention of Hizb al Tahrir.
