Even if the work belongs to you, or the scan is yours, just insert a credit page as page nr 1, or one at the very end. I've seen actual idiots run their watermark diagonally across scans. Those watermarks make parts of the scans difficult to read. Absolute idiocy, or as you put it 'credit-grabbing madness'.
