  1. Salaam. There needs to be a formal fatwa on the practice by the Ulema before we start seeing fireworks, dancing on the streets, parties and all sorts of Haraam which accompanies the advent of the gregorian new year. To expound matters further, you have so many non Muslims sending these greetings to further confuse matters for the layman Muslim who in today's age needs any excuse to "have a good time". Asking Allah to protect and bless us at the advent of our new year is commendable, but we should speak out against these messages that send out the wrong signals and seem to imitate the Kuffaar, after all how many times did we see wording in Hadith to be different from such and such (non Muslims).

Please see PDF file attached, which I had circulated on the net in response to the greetings. The "Bid'at Brigade" has not yet to respond to it.

  3. Making a dua for Allah to bless us is different from coining terms such as "happy new year". This is dangerous for a couple of reason's. One, it gives the wrong impression that its a celebration and can lead many uneducated Muslims in that direction when clearly its nothing of the sort. Two, whoever loves the Holy Messenger of Allah peace and blessings be upon Him, should have the respect not to conduct celebrations during this time on account of what took place at Karbala....and no I'm not Shia. I find the trend of saying happy new year for Muharram disrespectful and deeply annoying and we should speak against it.

    thanks brother abu Hasan.

yes, it would form the basis for making Dua, for every new month (including start of new year, in Muharram shareef).

but would it form the jawaaz or basis of sending messages exclusively for NEW ISLAMIC YEAR MUBARAK? then why not for every month?? because the hadeeth does NOT mention that Sahaba used to WISH (MUBARAK) each other on the start of the new year.

PS: the argument is only to counter the foolish comments that we get from Devbandis.

the hadith of mu'jam al-awsat of tabarani mentions the start of the year.

I received it too. But the TITLE inserted in the jpg file, is itself wrong.

the Dua is actually upon seeing the new moon, for any month.

this does not prove that wishing Happy New Year is a Sunnah.

I received the attached hadith also from a sunni source.

I was flooded with messages from various sunni brothers and sunni groups - wishing all a happy new Islamic year. Fine. may Allah keep the ahleSunnah prosperous and successful in this world & in the next.

but I also received these messages from non-sunni sources: I therefore posed questions to them whether it is a Bid'at or not. did the Holy Qur'an command us to do it? did the Holy Prophet do it or command us to do it? did the Sahaba do it?

until now, not a single wahabi has been able to give an answer why it should not be labelled as a bid'at (good or bad).

I have therefore started this thread to get inputs from brothers, so we can use this to counter the fools, especially when they accuse us of this for celebrating the Noble birth of the Holy Prophet.
